Carter Horticulture Limited is a horticultural contracting business operating across the Bay of Plenty region, providing orchard management and seasonal horticultural services. We are seeking a motivated and experienced Outdoor Leading Hand to join our team on a full-time permanent basis.

Position: Outdoor Leading Hand

Location: Bay of Plenty, New Zealand

Employment Type: Full-time, Permanent

Hours: Minimum 30 hours per week, maximum 40 hours per week

Pay Rate: $31.80 to $35.00 per hour

About the Role

The Outdoor Leading Hand will provide day-to-day guidance to orchard workers and assist in ensuring horticultural tasks are completed efficiently, safely, and to the required quality standards. This is a practical, field-based role involving hands-on participation in orchard operations while supporting the management team with worksite coordination.

 

Key Duties and Responsibilities

    Lead small teams of orchard workers during daily operations.

    Allocate tasks and assist workers in completing assigned duties.

    Monitor the quality of orchard work and report any issues to management.

    Provide on-site guidance and practical instruction to new and existing workers.

    Assist with pruning, thinning, planting, harvesting, bud rubbing, and other horticultural activities.

    Ensure tools, equipment, and materials are available and used correctly.

    Conduct daily worksite checks and report hazards, incidents, or maintenance requirements.

    Monitor attendance and communicate staffing requirements to management.

    Ensure workers comply with health and safety procedures and company policies.

    Assist with setting up work areas and organising workflow to maximise productivity.

 

     Maintain records of completed work and daily activities as required.

    Support supervisors and managers in achieving operational targets.

           Perform hands-on horticultural duties alongside the team when required

 

Minimum Requirements

Applicants must meet one of the following:

At least 2 years of relevant work experience

OR

           A New Zealand Level 7 qualification or higher
