We are looking for a reliable and hardworking Dairy Farm Assistant to join our team. In this role, you will support the day-to-day running of the farm, including milking, animal care, feed management, and general farm duties. Dairy Farm Assistant

Hours and Accommodation

  • A minimum of 30 hours per week is guaranteed.

  • On-farm accommodation may be available, subject to availability. Housing may be shared. Pets are not permitted.

Location

  • Applicants must be able to reliably travel to the farm for rostered shifts. Candidates living outside a reasonable commuting distance should be willing to relocate if required.

Requirements

  • Physically fit and capable of carrying out farm duties.

  • Positive attitude and willingness to learn.

  • Hold a current driver's licence.

  • Must successfully pass a pre-employment drug test and have a clean criminal record.

  • Previous dairy farming experience is not essential, but is an advantage.

Key Responsibilities

Feed and Pasture Management

  • Assist with feed planning and daily feed management.

  • Help maintain healthy pastures and crops through weed and pest control.

  • Apply fertiliser and assist with irrigation activities where required.

Milking Operations

  • Carry out milking duties while maintaining high standards of hygiene.

  • Ensure milking equipment is cleaned and operated correctly to help achieve quality milk standards, including low somatic cell counts.

Effluent Management

  • Operate and maintain the farm's effluent system in accordance with regional council regulations and company standards.

  • Keep accurate effluent management records.

  • Report and respond appropriately to any issues with the effluent system.

Animal Care

  • Support the farm's animal health programme.

  • Assist with calving, wintering, and calf rearing to promote healthy stock and minimise losses.

  • Maintain accurate herd records.

  • Promptly report any sick or injured animals to the Farm Manager.

Farm Operations

  • Assist the Dairy Farm Manager with day-to-day farm operations and business objectives.

  • Help coordinate repairs and maintenance of farm machinery, equipment, and infrastructure.

  • Follow all company policies and farm procedures.

Health, Safety and Environment

  • Comply with all health and safety policies and procedures.

  • Wear the required personal protective equipment (PPE) at all times.

  • Carry out duties in line with environmental best practice guidelines.
