Kitchen Theme Ltd is an Auckland-based company specialising in the design, manufacture, supply and installation of customised kitchens, wardrobes, bathroom cabinetry, laundry cabinetry and other interior joinery solutions for residential and commercial projects.

Our manufacturing facility operates a range of modern production machinery, including CNC processing equipment, panel saws, edge-banding machines, drilling equipment, pneumatic systems and other mechanical production equipment. As our manufacturing operations continue to grow, we are seeking a Mechanical Technician to provide engineering technical support for our production machinery and mechanical systems.

About the Role

The Mechanical Technician provides engineering technical support for the company's manufacturing machinery and mechanical production systems throughout equipment installation, testing, commissioning, modification and continuous improvement activities.

Working closely with management, production staff, machinery suppliers and external technical specialists, this role supports the efficient operation, performance improvement and ongoing development of manufacturing equipment to ensure reliable production, product quality and compliance with technical and safety requirements.

Key Responsibilities

• Provide engineering technical support for the installation, commissioning, testing and ongoing improvement of manufacturing machinery and mechanical systems used in the company's cabinetry production operations.
• Conduct operational testing and performance assessments of CNC machinery, panel saws, edge-banding machines, drilling equipment, pneumatic systems and other production equipment to verify mechanical performance, operational reliability and production efficiency.
• Monitor, collect and analyse machinery performance data, equipment operating conditions and production information to identify technical issues, equipment limitations and opportunities for process improvement.
• Investigate mechanical faults, equipment failures and recurring production issues, analyse root causes, evaluate engineering solutions and recommend appropriate corrective actions.
• Assist in the planning and implementation of machinery installations, equipment upgrades, production line modifications and mechanical improvement projects to support manufacturing efficiency and changing production requirements.
• Prepare and maintain technical drawings, machinery layouts, installation documentation, equipment specifications, testing records and other engineering documentation relating to manufacturing machinery and mechanical systems.
• Interpret engineering drawings, equipment manuals and technical specifications, and carry out technical measurements and calculations required for machinery installation, alignment, equipment modification and production system improvements.
• Assess machinery, mechanical component and equipment requirements for manufacturing projects, including evaluating equipment compatibility, operating tolerances, production capacity and installation requirements.
• Assemble, install, align, test and commission new or modified machinery, mechanical assemblies, pneumatic equipment and associated production systems to ensure compliance with technical and operational specifications.
• Coordinate machinery inspections, planned maintenance activities and equipment servicing, review maintenance outcomes and recommend engineering improvements to enhance equipment reliability, minimise downtime and improve production performance.
• Liaise with machinery manufacturers, equipment suppliers and external technical specialists to obtain technical advice, resolve complex mechanical issues and support the implementation of approved engineering solutions.
• Ensure that machinery installations, mechanical modifications and completed technical work comply with engineering specifications, manufacturer requirements, workplace health and safety obligations and relevant New Zealand standards, while maintaining accurate engineering and technical records.

Requirements

Applicants must have either:

• A Bachelor's degree or higher qualification in Mechanical Engineering or a closely related field; or
• At least three years' relevant work experience.
