The company has production, warehouse, supply chain, quality and machinery maintenance functions to support its manufacturing operations.

We are seeking three full-time Mechanical Engineering Technicians to support the maintenance and operation of production machinery, forklift equipment and related mechanical systems.

Job Description

The Mechanical Engineering Technicians will provide technical support for machinery inspection, testing, maintenance, repair, installation and modification work, including machinery and mechanical systems used in food, pharmaceutical, cosmetic, health product or similar hygienic production environments.

The role will support the company’s Machine Technician, Fitter-Welder team, Operators and Warehouse staff in relation to machinery performance, fault diagnosis, maintenance records and mechanical equipment operation.

Key Tasks and Responsibilities

The Mechanical Engineering Technicians will be responsible for:

  • Preparing and assisting with technical drawings, plans, diagrams and records for mechanical maintenance, repair, modification and installation work.
  • Assisting with the design, adjustment and modification of production machinery, mechanical components, machine tools, controls and related mechanical systems.
  • Selecting suitable tools, equipment, parts and materials required for mechanical maintenance, repair, installation or modification work.
  • Assisting with assembling, installing, testing, adjusting and modifying mechanical assemblies, machine components, machine tools, controls and related mechanical systems used in production machinery.
  • Estimating material quantities, parts requirements, equipment needs and machine maintenance requirements.
  • Performing machinery checks, inspections, measurements and tests, and collecting and analysing machinery data and test results.
  • Supporting the inspection and maintenance of machines, production equipment, forklift equipment and plant, including providing technical support to the Machine Technician and Fitter-Welder team.
  • Checking that completed repair, installation, modification or maintenance work meets relevant specifications, safety requirements, hygiene requirements, cleanability requirements and company procedures.

Key Terms and Conditions

  • Employment type: Full-time, permanent employment.
  • Positions available: 3.
  • Minimum guaranteed hours: 30 hours per week.
  • Pay rate: $29.00 – $35.00 per hour, depending on qualifications, relevant work experience, technical skills and suitability.
  • Location of work: Auckland.
  • Actual earnings: The role is paid at an hourly rate. There are no piece rates, commission rates or non-guaranteed bonus arrangements forming a significant part of the employee’s earnings.

Applicants who only meet the minimum requirements, or who have limited practical experience in relevant mechanical work, should expect to be considered at the lower end of the pay range.

Applicants with stronger relevant mechanical experience, a relevant bachelor’s degree or higher qualification, and stronger ability to support machinery testing, fault diagnosis, installation, adjustment, modification or technical record work may be considered for the higher end of the pay range.

Minimum Requirements

Applicants must have relevant mechanical maintenance, machinery servicing, installation, production equipment support or similar experience/training that is applicable to food, pharmaceutical, cosmetic, health product or similar hygienic production environments.

Applicants must also meet at least one of the following minimum requirements:

  • At least two years of relevant work experience in mechanical maintenance, machinery servicing, mechanical installation, production equipment support, plant maintenance, forklift equipment maintenance, or a similar mechanical field; or
  • A New Zealand Level 4 or above qualification in mechanical engineering, mechanical technology, maintenance engineering, engineering technology, manufacturing technology, or a relevant field; or
  • Any tertiary qualification, together with at least six months of relevant work experience in mechanical maintenance, machinery servicing, mechanical equipment support, production machinery, plant equipment, or a similar mechanical environment.

Applicants should also have:

  • Understanding of hygiene, cleanability and contamination control requirements when working with production machinery or mechanical equipment.
  • Ability to follow workplace instructions, hygiene procedures and company procedures.
  • Ability to work as part of a team and cooperate with production, warehouse and maintenance staff.
  • Good communication skills.
  • Ability to keep accurate work records when required.
  • Reliable work attitude and willingness to learn.
  • Attention to detail.
  • Commitment to workplace health and safety.
