About the role:
This is far more than a maintenance leadership role.

As Technical Superintendent, you’ll take ownership of the long-term reliability and preservation of the iconic TSS Earnslaw, take ownership of everything from maintenance strategy and engineering projects through to asset planning, budgeting, and team leadership. Working closely with operational teams,contractors and regulators, you’ll help ensure one of New Zealand’s most recognisable heritage vessels continues operating safely for generations to come.

It’s a unique opportunity to combine hands-on engineering expertise with strategic asset management in one of the country’s most spectacular locations.

Role Responsibilities / Duties:
  • Lead the technical management of the TSS Earnslaw and supporting marine assets.
  • Develop and deliver maintenance, survey and asset management programmes.
  • Mentor the engineering team while promoting a strong safety culture.
  • Manage engineering budgets, contractors and maintenance projects.
  • Ensure compliance with maritime, statutory and heritage requirements.
  • Drive continuous improvement to maximise asset reliability and operational performance.
Skills & Experience:
  • MEC5 qualification or higher (steam endorsement strongly preferred)
  • Significant experience in marine maintenance and engineering operations
  • Experience leading teams and coordinating contractors
  • Strong understanding of asset management and maintenance planning.
  • Commercial awareness with budget management experience.
  • A collaborative approach and the ability to build strong stakeholder relationships.
Desirable:
  • Previous experience as Chief Engineer or Technical Superintendent.
  • Experience with CMMS systems such as Maximo.
  • Project management experience within a marine environment.
