Due to continued business growth, we are seeking an experienced and motivated Transport Manager to oversee and manage our transport operations.

Key Responsibilities

Key Duties and Responsibilities

The successful applicant will be responsible for, but not limited to:

  • Plan, organise, coordinate and manage the daily transport operations of the company's fleet to ensure the timely, efficient and cost-effective transportation and delivery of fresh fruit and vegetables.

  • Develop, implement and review transport policies, operational procedures and transport plans to improve productivity, efficiency and service quality.

  • Develop transport schedules and optimise delivery routes to maximise fleet utilisation, improve operational efficiency and reduce transport costs.

  • Coordinate the collection and distribution of produce from growers, farms, wholesale markets and suppliers throughout New Zealand, including Napier, Hastings, Tauranga and other regions.

  • Build and maintain strong working relationships with growers, suppliers, freight providers, contractors and customers to ensure reliable and efficient supply chain operations.

  • Supervise, lead, train and support truck drivers and transport staff, including recruitment assistance where required, rostering, work allocation, performance monitoring and ensuring compliance with company policies and procedures.

  • Monitor transport operations, delivery performance, fleet utilisation, fuel consumption, freight costs and other key operational performance indicators, and implement continuous improvements where appropriate.

  • Prepare, manage and monitor transport budgets, operating costs and resource allocation to achieve business objectives.

  • Coordinate vehicle servicing, maintenance, repairs, inspections and certification to ensure all vehicles remain safe, roadworthy and compliant with regulatory requirements.

  • Ensure compliance with all relevant New Zealand transport legislation, health and safety requirements, food safety standards and company policies.

  • Coordinate loading and unloading activities to ensure the safe handling, storage and transportation of perishable products while maintaining product quality.

  • Investigate and resolve transport delays, vehicle breakdowns, operational issues, incidents, customer complaints and delivery disruptions promptly to minimise business impacts and maintain high levels of customer service.

  • Liaise with customers, suppliers, contractors, freight providers and relevant regulatory authorities regarding transport operations and logistics matters.

  • Maintain accurate transport records, delivery documentation, vehicle maintenance records, compliance documentation and operational reports.

  • Analyse operational data and prepare management reports on transport performance, costs and service delivery, making recommendations for improvements.

  • Identify, evaluate and develop new logistics and transport opportunities to expand the company's produce sourcing and distribution network throughout New Zealand.

  • Ensure inventory movement and logistics activities are effectively coordinated to support efficient business operations.

  • Perform any other transport management duties reasonably required to support the efficient operation of the business.

Skills and Experience Required

Applicants should have:

  • At least 3 years' relevant work experience, OR

  • A relevant Level 4 or higher qualification (or equivalent) in transport, logistics, supply chain management, business management or a related field.

  • Strong leadership and people management skills.

  • Excellent organisational and time management abilities.

  • Good communication and problem-solving skills.

  • Sound knowledge of transport operations and logistics management.

  • Understanding of New Zealand transport regulations and health and safety requirements is preferred.

  • Ability to work under pressure and manage multiple operational priorities.

  • Competent computer skills, including Microsoft Office and transport management systems.
