Shop Assistant

Banana Marketing Limited, trading as The Fresh Market Devonport, is seeking three reliable and customer-focused Retail Shop Assistants to join our team on a full-time basis.

This is a full-time permanent role, offering minimum of 32 hours per week. The suitable candidate will be responsible for supporting the daily operations of our retail store, including customer service, stock management, store presentation, and general retail duties, to ensure smooth and efficient business operations.

Key Responsibilities

The successful applicant will be responsible for:

• Managing daily store opening and closing procedures, including cash handling, customer transactions, and end-of-day reconciliation.
• Assisting customers with product enquiries, pricing, availability, product information, and professionally resolving issues.
• Receiving, checking, labelling, pricing, and processing incoming stock while maintaining accurate inventory records.
• Supporting stock ordering, inventory control, stock rotation, stocktakes, and processing customer returns.
• Maintaining well-presented, organised, and fully stocked product displays, including promotional setups and special offers.
• Preparing, packing, and dispatching customer orders, and assisting with deliveries, loading and unloading, and general stockroom operations.
• Communicating with customers, suppliers, transport providers, and other business contacts regarding stock, deliveries, and operational requirements.
• Supporting management with daily store operations and assisting with implementing improvements to enhance business efficiency.
• Maintaining a clean, safe, and professional store environment while complying with Health & Safety, Food Safety, and company policies and procedures.
• Performing other reasonable duties as required to support the efficient operation of the business.

Work Availability Requirements

This role requires flexibility to meet the demands of retail trading. The successful applicant must be available:

• To work across all weekdays, weekends, and public holidays as required.
• To work split shifts, including morning and afternoon/evening shifts.
• For early starts and late finishes depending on store opening hours, deliveries, and operational requirements.
• To work additional hours when required during busy trading periods.

• Has excellent customer service and communication skills.
• Is reliable, punctual, and able to work independently as well as part of a team.
• Has good attention to detail and the ability to follow workplace procedures.
• Is physically capable of assisting with stock handling, deliveries, and general retail duties.
• Has a positive attitude and willingness to learn.

No formal qualifications or previous experience are required for this position. Full training will be provided to the successful applicant.
