Payroll Investigator

About the Role

We are seeking an experienced Payroll Investigator to join our payroll remediation team. This role is ideal for someone with extensive experience in payroll compliance investigations and Holidays Act remediation, who can analyse complex payroll data, validate calculation outcomes, and identify issues requiring remediation.

You will play a key role in reviewing payroll data, investigating anomalies, validating calculation model outputs, and ensuring compliance with New Zealand employment legislation.

Key Responsibilities

• Investigate payroll data to identify compliance issues relating to employee entitlements.
• Verify and validate outputs generated by Holidays Act calculation models.
• Analyse large and complex payroll datasets to identify trends, patterns, anomalies, and outliers.
• Investigate exceptions and determine root causes of calculation or data discrepancies.
• Assess payroll practices against legislative requirements and organisational policies.
• Work closely with payroll, HR, legal, finance, and technical teams to resolve complex payroll issues.
• Document investigation findings and provide evidence-based recommendations.
• Support remediation and rectification programmes through detailed analysis and quality assurance.
• Prepare reports suitable for internal governance and audit purposes.
• Contribute to continuous improvement of payroll investigation and validation processes.

Essential Requirements

To be considered for this role, you must demonstrate:

• Deep working knowledge of the:
  • Holidays Act 2003
  • Minimum Wage Act 1983
  • Employment Relations Act 2000
  • Human Rights Act 1993
• A minimum of three completed Holidays Act remediation and rectification projects where you were directly responsible for:
  • Verifying outputs from a payroll calculation model.
  • Investigating calculation discrepancies.
  • Confirming the accuracy of remediation payments.
• Extensive experience analysing large payroll datasets using advanced analytical techniques.
• Proven ability to identify trends, patterns, anomalies, and outlier results, and investigate their underlying causes.
• Strong understanding of payroll systems, payroll calculations, and employee remuneration structures.
• Excellent analytical, investigative, and problem-solving skills.
• High attention to detail with the ability to make evidence-based decisions.
• Strong written communication skills, including preparing technical reports and documenting findings.
• The ability to work independently while collaborating effectively with multidisciplinary teams.
