STZ Farming Partnership is seeking two motivated Herd Managers to join our progressive dairy farming business located near Tirau, Waikato.Our System 4 farm milks approximately 650 cows through a 40-aside herringbone shed on 200 hectares. We use modern equipment, well-established farm systems, and are committed to high standards of animal welfare and farm performance.

We are seeking two motivated Herd Managers to oversee herd health, milking operations, pasture management, and day-to-day farm activities while supporting the efficient operation of the farm. Applicants with at least two years of commercial dairy farming or livestock farming experience OR a relevant Level 4 qualification in Agriculture or Allied Sector or equivalent and a commitment to safe and sustainable farming practices are encouraged to apply.

About the Role


The Herd Manager will work alongside the contract milker and be responsible for managing one herd and one side of the farm. The successful applicant must be capable of carrying out day-to-day farm operations with minimal supervision and assisting with the efficient operation of the farm.

Key Responsibilities

  • Milk production and dairy shed operations
  • Animal health management and livestock handling and care
  • Calving assistance and calf rearing
  • Feeding and pasture management
  • Tractor and farm machinery operation 
  • Farm maintenance and fencing
  • Stock management and Farm record keeping
  • Maintaining milk quality and hygiene standards
  • Ensure environmental and health & safety compliance management
  • Manage Farm equipment and machinery maintenance
  • Effectively communicating with farm manager and other farm staff
  • Supporting the Farm Manager and other farm staff as required

Minimum Requirements

  • At least 2 years of relevant dairy farming or livestock farming experience OR a relevant Level 4 qualification in Agriculture or Allied Sector or equivalent
  • Practical experience with animal husbandry and farm machinery
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a team
  • Good communication and organisational skills
  • Physically fit and able to work in all weather conditions
  • Strong employment references
  • Valid Driver Licence
  • Must pass pre-employment drug testing
  • Clean criminal history
