Machine Operator

Wilson Contractors is a well-established locally owned and operated civil construction company servicing Central Otago, Queenstown Lakes and Southland since 2003. We deliver a wide range of services including earthworks, roading, drainage, infrastructure, water reticulation and subdivision developments.

Due to continued growth and a strong forward workload, we are seeking experienced Machine Operators to join our team based in the Queenstown Lakes District and Central Otago region.

About the Role

This is a permanent, full-time position operating a variety of civil construction machinery including excavators, loaders, rollers and other earthmoving equipment. You will work across a range of projects including earthworks, roading, drainage and infrastructure construction.

Employment Details

• Position: Machine Operator
• Location: Queenstown Lakes District / Central Otago
• Number of Positions: 5
• Employment Type: Permanent, Full-Time
• Guaranteed Hours: Minimum 80 hours per fortnight
• Days of Work: Monday to Friday
• Additional Hours: Optional Saturday work may be available depending on workload
• Pay Rate: $30.00 – $40.00 per hour, depending on skills, qualifications and experience

Key Responsibilities

• Operate excavators, loaders, rollers and other civil construction machinery safely and efficiently
• Carry out earthworks, drainage, trenching, roading and infrastructure works
• Complete daily machine inspections and basic maintenance checks
• Maintain a high standard of workmanship and productivity
• Follow all health and safety requirements and company procedures
• Work effectively within a team environment and communicate with supervisors and site personnel
• Assist with manual labouring duties when required

What We Are Looking For

To be successful in this role, you will have:

• At least 3 years' relevant experience operating civil construction machinery
• Experience working in earthworks, drainage, roading or infrastructure projects
• A strong commitment to health and safety
• Good care and respect for machinery and equipment
• The ability to work independently and as part of a team
• Good communication skills and a positive attitude
• Physical fitness suitable for civil construction work

Preferred Qualifications

• Current New Zealand Driver Licence or the abiltiy to obtain
• W, T and R endorsements
• Class 2, 4 or 5 Licence advantageous
