Packhouse Team Leader

Minimum 30 hours per week guaranteed.

• At least 1 year management experience in farming

Key Tasks and Responsibilities:

Pre Start

• Arrive at least half an hour prior to the grading/packing shift. Turn on machine and complete set up process ready for production

Order Paperwork

• Print any order paperwork that has been sent through from admin team. Fold and arrange paperwork ready for order picking. Liaise with admin if any changes required or paperwork missing.

Best Before date/Supplier code

• Best Before dates must be legible on all products.  Ensure that the correct best before date and supplier code is set on all packing lanes being used.
• Best before date is 35 days from lay date. Conductregular checks throughout the day to ensure the correct best before date has been applied to packs.

Grading/Packing 

• Supervise packing or grading shifts to ensure that each stage of the process is carried out correctly.
• Key outcome is a high quality first grade eggs is achieved. All dirty or cracked eggs are removed throughout the process and reworked or downgraded.
• Rejected eggs are kept to a minimum through the operation.

Production sheds in flow

• Manage the timing of turning on and off the production sheds to achieve a good flow of eggs to the machine.

Manage the work process and breaks

• Packing staff should be taking a 10 minute break after every 2 hours of production and a 30 minute lunch break after 4 hours of production. Example as below;
• Production starts at 8am with a break at 10am.
  Production recommences at 10.15am and continues to
  the 30 minute lunch break at 12.15pm. Following 2 more hours of production a further 10 minute break is taken and so on. Actual break times can be set around work flow and team preferences.

Correct product packing

• Control the packing of the correct products as per the production plan. Supervise the type and quantity of packaging loaded into the denesters and lane configurations to meet the plan.
• Maintain an even balance of pack configurations with any surplus product.

Order picking

• Oversee orders being picked for customers. Ensure loads are ready for collection by freight company.  Communicate with freight company or manager any issues.

RMP Food Safety 

• Ensure that all RMP or customer specific food safety requirements in the packing area are adhered to. This includes completion of the Daily Packhouse Inspection Record (including product assessments if required) as well as the Monthly Packhouse Inspection Record. 

Cleaning

• Ensure that the packhouse and grading machinery is cleaned in accordance with the cleaning schedulesto the standard required.

Packhouse Supplies 

• Facilitate ordering or communicate any supplies needed. This includes packaging, cleaning chemicals, stationery and so on.

Team support

• Support members of the team and help create a positive supportive work environment.
• Communicate with management any issues that need resolution with staff or unresolved conflict.

Communicate maintenance issues

• Raise any machine performance issues with either the designated maintenance provider or company management when they occur.
