You will provide skilled support across commercial, residential, and civil construction projects, assisting tradespeople with structural work, site preparation, formwork, framing, and general construction duties.

Key Responsibilities

  • Structural & Formwork Assistance: Assist tradespeople in erecting timber framing, placing formwork for concrete pours, installing hoardings, and fixing basic timber components.

  • Site Preparation & Civil Support: Level ground, excavate trenches, assist with laying drainage pipes/cables, and prepare surfaces for concrete placement.

  • Tool & Equipment Operation: Safely operate heavy power tools including concrete breakers, circular saws, powder-actuated fasteners, and compactors.

  • Rigging & Materials Management: Safely load, unload, distribute, and secure heavy building materials across site levels using correct mechanical and manual handling techniques.

  • HSE & Site Safety: Maintain clean and hazard-free worksites, erect edge protection and basic scaffolding under supervision, and follow strict site safety plans.

 

Requirements and Skills

  • Minimum 24 months of verifiable hands-on experience as a Hammerhand on active commercial or civil construction sites.
  • Proven knowledge of residential and commercial framing, formwork, standard timber dimensions, and construction terminology.
  • High level of physical resilience with the ability to consistently lift up to 25kg, work at heights, and perform heavy manual labour in outdoor conditions.
  • Valid Site Safe / ConstructSafe Passport, or the ability to obtain one immediately.
  • Full NZ Driver's Licence or equivalent and reliable transport.
  • Be willing to undergo random drug tests while employed.
  • Must be a New Zealand Citizen, New Zealand Resident, or otherwise legally entitled to work in New Zealand.

 

Applicants must be willing to travel and relocate for work as required. The successful applicants may be required to work on projects in different locations throughout New Zealand, including Northland, Auckland, Waikato, Bay of Plenty, Taranaki, Manawatu-Whanganui, Hawke's Bay, Gisborne, Wellington, Tasman, Nelson, Marlborough, West Coast, Canterbury, Otago, and Southland. Flexibility to move between project locations and adapt to different work environments is required. This role provides an opportunity to gain experience across a variety of construction projects while exploring New Zealand’s diverse regions.

 

This is a full-time permanent role, and the hourly pay rate is between NZ$26 and NZ$30, depending on experience and skills. The work hours are from 30 hours minimum to 70 hours maximum per week, and they are to be worked between Monday and Friday between 7 am and 5 pm. They may be required to work on weekends.
