Position: General Motor Mechanic

Location: Otahuhu, Auckland
Employment Type: Full-time, Permanent, Waged
Pay Rate: $25.00 - $28.00 per hour, depending on skills and experience
Hours of Work: Monday to Friday, 8:00am to 4:30pm. A minimum of 30 hours per week is guaranteed, with additional hours available depending on workload, up to 55 hours per week.

 

About the Role

The successful applicant will work within our in-house vehicle reconditioning workshop, preparing and maintaining a wide range of petrol, diesel, and hybrid vehicles for retail sale. This role involves diagnosing faults, carrying out servicing and repairs, and ensuring vehicles meet company quality standards and customer expectations.

Key Responsibilities

  • Diagnose mechanical and electrical faults using diagnostic equipment and testing procedures.
  • Carry out scheduled servicing and preventative maintenance.
  • Inspect, service, repair, and replace engine, transmission, steering, suspension, braking, cooling, fuel, and exhaust system components.
  • Perform engine tune-ups and mechanical adjustments.
  • Remove, dismantle, repair, and refit vehicle components and assemblies.
  • Conduct vehicle inspections, road tests, and safety checks.
  • Diagnose and repair faults identified during vehicle appraisal and reconditioning.
  • Complete pre-sale inspections and prepare vehicles for retail sale.
  • Assess repair requirements and recommend appropriate repair solutions.
  • Maintain accurate service records and repair documentation.
  • Ensure all work is completed to manufacturer and industry standards.
  • Follow workplace Health and Safety policies and procedures.
  • Maintain workshop tools, equipment, and cleanliness.

Skills and Experience Required

  • At least 2 years of relevant experience carrying out vehicle servicing, maintenance, and repairs; OR
  • A relevant automotive trade qualification (New Zealand or overseas equivalent).
  • Experience diagnosing and repairing mechanical and electrical faults.
  • Good knowledge of automotive systems and components.
  • Strong attention to detail and problem-solving skills.
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
  • Ability to communicate effectively in the workplace and maintain service records.
  • Commitment to workplace health and safety practices.
  • A Full Class 1 Driver Licence is preferred but not essential.
  • Reliable, punctual, and able to maintain professional workplace standards.
