Our services include geotechnical site investigations, foundation assessments, earthworks inspections, construction monitoring, producer statements, and engineering reporting. Due to continued business growth, we are seeking a motivated and capable Geotechnical Engineer to join our team.
Key Responsibilities
1. Plan, coordinate and undertake geotechnical investigations for residential, commercial and infrastructure development projects, including reviewing site conditions and determining appropriate investigation methods.
2. Interpret geological, geotechnical and laboratory testing data to assess ground conditions, identify geotechnical risks and provide practical engineering recommendations.
3. Prepare and review geotechnical reports and designs covering shallow and deep foundations, including bearing capacity, settlement and safe soil loading assessments, as well as earthworks, slope stability, retaining structures and ground improvement solutions, in accordance with New Zealand engineering standards.
4. Provide technical advice to clients, architects, structural engineers and contractors on geotechnical issues throughout the planning, design and construction stages of projects.
5. Participate in field investigations, including supervision of drilling, test pit excavation, in-situ testing, sampling and construction monitoring to ensure investigations meet project requirements.
6. Analyse geotechnical data using appropriate engineering principles and software to evaluate soil and rock behaviour, settlement, bearing capacity and slope performance.
7. Liaise with project managers, local authorities and multidisciplinary engineering teams to ensure geotechnical recommendations are effectively integrated into project delivery.
8. Contribute to the continuous improvement of the company's geotechnical methodologies, technical standards and quality assurance systems while maintaining compliance with relevant New Zealand regulations and industry best practice.
Skills and Experience
The successful applicant should possess:
· A qualification in Civil Engineering, Geotechnical Engineering, Engineering Mechanics or another closely related engineering discipline.
· Knowledge of civil and geotechnical engineering principles, including site investigations, soil and construction material testing, engineering data collection and technical documentation.
· Demonstrated ability to plan and undertake field investigations and engineering testing, and prepare professional geotechnical engineering reports.
· Ability to analyse and interpret engineering information and develop geotechnical recommendations in accordance with project specifications and quality requirements.
· Strong organisational skills with excellent attention to detail and the ability to manage multiple project tasks.
· Good written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to work effectively with engineers, contractors, laboratories and clients.
· Ability to work both independently and collaboratively within a professional engineering consultancy environment.
· Commitment to maintaining high standards of workplace health, safety and quality assurance.
· A current full New Zealand Driver Licence (or the ability to obtain one) will be an advantage.
