Hydraulic Systems Support Technician
Tasman Mill / Kawerau
Are you the person everyone calls when a hydraulic problem refuses to stay fixed?
This is a rare opportunity to step into a specialist role where you'll become the go to expert for hydraulic system reliability across large scale industrial manufacturing operations. Working within a highly skilled maintenance and engineering team, you will play a key role in improving plant performance, eliminating recurring failures, and driving best practice across critical hydraulic assets.
If you enjoy solving complex technical problems, improving systems rather than simply repairing them, and making a measurable impact on plant reliability, we'd like to hear from you.
Why You'll Want This Role
-
Work on complex, large-scale industrial hydraulic systems
-
Be the recognised hydraulic technical specialist within the business
-
Drive reliability improvements rather than reactive maintenance
-
Monday to Friday role with excellent work-life balance
-
Long-term career opportunity with a well-established New Zealand manufacturer
-
Join a supportive engineering team committed to continuous improvement
The Opportunity
This is far more than a maintenance role.
You will take ownership of hydraulic system performance by improving preventative maintenance strategies, supporting shutdown planning, investigating recurring failures, and ensuring hydraulic documentation and asset information accurately reflects what is installed on site.
You'll also work closely with engineering and maintenance teams to optimise spare parts, improve fault diagnosis, and introduce smarter monitoring practices that reduce downtime and increase equipment reliability.
Your responsibilities will include:
-
Providing advanced hydraulic fault-finding and technical support
-
Reviewing and improving preventative maintenance programmes
-
Auditing hydraulic systems, schematics and plant documentation
-
Improving SAP asset records, Bills of Materials and spare parts accuracy
-
Identifying opportunities to improve hydraulic system reliability
-
Supporting root cause investigations and implementing permanent corrective actions
-
Working alongside engineering teams to improve plant performance and maintenance standards
About You
You'll have extensive experience working on industrial hydraulic systems within heavy manufacturing, processing, mining, pulp & paper, steel, food manufacturing, or similarly complex environments.
You'll also bring:
-
Strong hydraulic troubleshooting and diagnostic skills
-
The ability to interpret hydraulic schematics and system designs
-
Experience working with SAP or another CMMS
-
A methodical approach with exceptional attention to detail
-
A genuine passion for continuous improvement and reliability engineering
-
Excellent communication skills and the confidence to work across maintenance and engineering teams
