The Dairy Shed Technician is responsible for maintaining, repairing, and ensuring the efficient operation of dairy shed equipment and systems. This role supports day-to-day milking operations by minimising downtime and ensuring all plant and machinery are safe, compliant, and functioning effectively. The successful applicant may also assist with milking duties from time to time as required. 

Skill, Experience and Requirements:

  • At least 1 year experience in electrical work, and welding (commercial, industrial, or agricultural)
  • Strong fault-finding and troubleshooting ability
  • Experience working with milking systems or willingness to learn
  • Ability to read wiring diagrams and use testing equipment
  • Practical fabrication and repair skills
  • Good understanding of health and safety practices
  • Ability to work both independently and as part of a team
  • Flexible and willing to assist with a variety of farm tasks as needed
  • Basic dairy farming knowledge (e.g. milking, animal health awareness) preferred 
  • Must have a drivers licence - travelling between sites may be required from time time (ability to operate motorbikes/ATVs advantageous).

Key Responsibilities:

  • Install, maintain, and repair electrical systems within the dairy shed and associated
    infrastructure  
  • Diagnose and troubleshoot faults in milking plant, pumps, motors, and control
    systems
  • Read and interpret wiring diagrams and technical manuals
  • Assist with programming and maintenance of Variable Frequency Drives (VFDs)
  • Conduct routine testing and safety checks of electrical and mechanical systems
  • Perform welding and fabrication for maintenance and repair of farm equipment
  • Maintain accurate records of faults, repairs, and maintenance work completed
  • Ensure compliance with health and safety procedures at all times
  • Support general shed maintenance including plant wash and vat wash systems
  • Assist with milking operations when required
