Zemo Produce Limited is a leading premium edible mushroom producer in New Zealand. The company operates its own advanced professional laboratory, equipped with comprehensive strain research and development, environmental monitoring, and quality testing facilities.
As our business continues to grow, we are seeking a Marketing Specialist to support brand development and ongoing marketing initiatives.

Key Responsibilities

  • Monitor and optimise mushroom cultivation conditions, including substrate performance, temperature, humidity, ventilation, hygiene, contamination control, and crop quality.
  • Conduct technical observations, sampling, testing, and data collection throughout the mushroom growth cycle.
  • Support R&D and production improvement projects relating to mushroom strain performance, cultivation methods, substrate optimisation, disease prevention, yield improvement, and product quality.
  • Analyse cultivation and production data to identify trends, risks, quality issues, and opportunities for process improvement.
  • Assist in the design, implementation, and evaluation of cultivation trials and technical experiments.
  • Prepare technical reports, production analysis summaries, SOPs, and quality improvement recommendations.
  • Work with management and production teams to translate technical findings into practical operational improvements.
  • Support food safety, biosecurity, hygiene, health and safety, and quality assurance requirements.
  • Maintain accurate records of experiments, observations, environmental parameters, production outcomes, and technical findings.

Qualification Requirements

Applicants should ideally have:

  • A Master’s degree or higher in agriculture, horticulture, biological sciences, microbiology, biotechnology, molecular biology, plant science, crop science, environmental biology, or a related discipline; or
  • A Bachelor’s degree in a relevant field with substantial technical, laboratory, agricultural production, or R&D experience.

Experience and Skills

The successful candidate will ideally have experience or strong capability in one or more of the following areas:

  • Mushroom cultivation or controlled-environment agricultural production
  • Microbiology, molecular biology, biotechnology, genetics, or biological research
  • Agricultural R&D, crop science, plant science, or production trials
  • Laboratory testing, biological sampling, contamination monitoring, or quality control
  • Data analysis, technical reporting, SOP development, and process improvement
  • Working across research, production, and management teams
