We are looking for a qualified Mechanical & Testing Technician. This is a full-time permanent position responsible for technical testing, advanced mechanical assembly, and quality validation within our automotive engineering team.

To be considered for this position, you will have a qualification at least at Diploma level or at least two years' experience. You must possess excellent communication skills, strong analytical abilities, and the capacity to manage complex technical projects within set timeframes.

You will be expected to perform core operational duties, including setting up engine and chassis dynamometers and interpreting telemetry to produce clear technical reports. Your role will involve hands-on assembly, part modification, and precision fitting, working directly from CAD models and mechanical schematics. Additionally, you will diagnose complex electromechanical failures, perform non-destructive testing, ensure compliance with NZTA safety guidelines, manage calibration schedules, and draft SOPs. You will also oversee material planning and supervise junior workshop technicians during intricate engine rebuilds.

Key Attributes:

  • A strong technical focus and dedication to precision engineering.

  • Knowledge and hands-on experience operating dynamometers, data logging tools, and precision measurement equipment.

  • Proficiency in reading CAD models, engineering drawings, and fluid power circuit diagrams.

  • Expertise in precision mechanical fitting, prototype modification, and using machining equipment (lathes, mills, custom jigs).

  • Solid understanding of vehicle safety standards, NZTA guidelines, and quality assurance processes.

  • Strong organisational skills to estimate materials, manage scheduling, and maintain lab equipment.

  • Leadership skills to direct and mentor junior technicians while managing workshop workflow.

  • Ability to work independently, multitask under tight project schedules, and collaborate effectively with the engineering team.

This is a full-time permanent position, and the successful applicant will be required to manage testing operations, mechanical assemblies, and workshop standards.

We will guarantee at least 30 hours per week for this role. The minimum payrate is $30 per hour and the maximum is $35 per hour.

Applicants for this position should have NZ residency or a valid NZ work visa.
