Field Crop Farm Supervisor Wanted - Full Time (40 hours/week)

Sky Horticulture Ltd is seeking a skilled, reliable, and experienced Field Crop Farm Supervisor to join our team in the kiwifruit horticulture sector.

The successful applicant will supervise daily field operations and lead permanent workers, contractors, and seasonal harvest crews. The role involves allocating work, monitoring crop health, operating machinery, overseeing irrigation and spray programmes, coordinating harvesting, enforcing safety requirements, and maintaining accurate operational records.

Requirements

         Minimum two years of relevant field crop, horticultural, or farm-supervision experience

         Strong leadership and communication skills

         Ability to direct, train, and motivate field workers

         Practical knowledge of crop production, pests, diseases, nutrient deficiencies, irrigation, and harvesting

         Experience operating tractors and other agricultural machinery

         Knowledge of fertilizers, herbicides, pesticides, and safe chemical-handling procedures

         Basic mechanical maintenance and troubleshooting skills

         Ability to maintain electronic timesheets and other operational records

         Strong commitment to workplace health and safety

         Physically fit and comfortable working outdoors

         Ability to work independently and additional hours during busy periods

Job Responsibilities

         Directing, training, and motivating daily field workers, contractors, and seasonal harvest crews on correct task execution

         Assigning daily field work, including weeding, pruning, thinning, planting, crop maintenance, and manual harvesting, to maximise efficiency

         Conducting daily field inspections to identify early signs of disease, nutrient deficiencies, pest infestations, and other crop-health concerns

         Operating or supervising the safe application of fertilizers, herbicides, and pesticides according to approved schedules and procedures

         Driving and operating farm machinery, including tractors, seeders, spreaders, sprayers, and commercial harvesters

         Performing routine servicing, cleaning, safety checks, and basic mechanical troubleshooting on field machinery, equipment, and tools

         Monitoring irrigation and water-distribution systems, checking lines for leaks, and ensuring correct soil-moisture levels

         Conducting morning toolbox meetings and enforcing health, safety, chemical-handling, and personal protective equipment requirements

         Coordinating the physical harvesting process and ensuring crops are carefully picked and loaded into bins to prevent damage

         Organising the loading of harvested crop bins onto transport trucks for delivery to storage facilities or packhouses

         Maintaining accurate electronic timesheets, attendance logs, task records, and productivity reports for the field crew

         Monitoring stock levels of seeds, chemical inputs, protective equipment, fuel, and other essential supplies to prevent operational delays
