Our goal is to improve health outcomes for all New Zealanders by delivering equitable, accessible and innovative care.
About the Role
The primary purpose of the role is to provide regional leadership, coordination and implementation support for the National Nursing Workforce Safety and Sustainability Programme.
The role is responsible for ensuring the ongoing integrity, standardisation, continuous quality improvement and effective implementation of Care Capacity Demand Management (CCDM) and other nationally endorsed safe staffing initiatives across the region.
Working in partnership with regional operational leaders, nursing leadership, workforce teams, unions and national programme leads, the position supports districts to continuously improve workforce safety systems, implement national policy and respond proactively to workforce risks that impact patient care and staff wellbeing.
The role does not generally hold operational management responsibility or direct reports. Success is achieved through influence, coaching, facilitation, relationship management and collaborative leadership.
About You
You are a registered nurse or midwife with a relevant tertiary qualification and a strong understanding of workforce planning, nursing workforce safety, service delivery and health system operations. You bring knowledge of Care Capacity Demand Management (CCDM) or other evidence-based staffing methodologies, supported by postgraduate study or equivalent experience in leadership, management, quality improvement or programme management.
You are an analytical and strategic thinker who can interpret complex workforce information, identify emerging risks and opportunities, and use evidence to support effective decision-making and continuous improvement. You understand how safe staffing systems contribute to quality patient care and staff wellbeing, and can translate national workforce priorities into practical implementation across a complex health system.
You are an effective relationship builder and collaborative leader who can influence and engage others without relying on formal authority. You bring strong coaching, facilitation and stakeholder management skills, and are confident working with operational and nursing leaders, workforce teams, unions and programme stakeholders to build shared understanding and achieve sustainable change.
You communicate clearly and confidently, both verbally and in writing, and can tailor your approach to diverse audiences. You are comfortable working across organisational boundaries, navigating complexity and competing priorities, and bringing people together to address workforce risks and deliver consistent, high-quality outcomes.
