About the Role
As a Senior Advisor, Health Promotion, you will play a key role in designing, implementing and evaluating health promotion initiatives focused on improving food environments and physical activity that improve health outcomes and reduce inequities across Aotearoa New Zealand. Working within the National Public Health Service, you will lead and coordinate health promotion activities, support evidence-informed decision-making, and work alongside regional teams, communities and stakeholders to create healthier environments where people can thrive.
This role requires a strong understanding of the determinants of health, health equity and Te Tiriti o Waitangi, combined with the ability to translate insights into practical action. You will build and maintain effective relationships across sectors, contribute to system-level change, and use data, evaluation and community insights to develop sustainable health promotion strategies that deliver meaningful outcomes for whānau and communities.

The National Public Health Service (NPHS) within Health New Zealand - Te Whatu Ora, work towards Pae Ora (healthy futures) for all by engaging with the wider determinants that impact people's health, focusing on oranga/wellbeing, prevention, protection, and population-level intervention. About you
You are an experienced health promotion professional with a strong understanding of the factors that influence health and wellbeing and a passion for improving health outcomes for communities. You bring a collaborative approach, sound judgement, and the ability to build effective relationships across a wide range of stakeholders. Comfortable working in complex environments, you can translate evidence and insights into practical action while maintaining a strong focus on equity and Te Tiriti o Waitangi.
You will bring:
- Experience in health promotion, public health, or a related advisory role.
- A dietetic qualification or nutritionist registration (preferred)
- Strong relationship management, stakeholder engagement, and influencing skills.
- Knowledge of health equity, the determinants of health, and the application of Te Tiriti o Waitangi in practice.
- Proven ability to plan, implement, and evaluate programmes or projects using evidence and insights.
- Excellent communication, analytical, and problem-solving skills, with the ability to work effectively across diverse communities and sectors.
