We are looking for a General Practitioner to join the Secondary Services Team who will work between primary and secondary services and has the ability to develop and support systems to ensure patients are on the appropriate pathways for care. Developing and maintaining relationships is essential to the effectiveness of this role.

About the role

  • To facilitate communication and coordination between primary and secondary providers across the primary/secondary interface throughout the Lakes District
  • To facilitate the implementation of localised primary care management guidelines in accordance with the Elective Services Project directives in consultation with PHOs in the Lakes District
  • To instigate and participate in agreed projects to assist in the achievement of the objectives of the government's Elective Services Project, and other projects as directed by the Group Director Operations
  • To provide General Practitioner input into the development of quality practice around the management of requests for specialist assistance and the management of follow-up activity.
  • To undertake audits and quality improvement reviews to improve the quality of patient care, at the primary/secondary interface

About you

  • NZ registration and annual practising certificate
  • Demonstrated experience in working within health systems / organisations
  • At least 2 years experience as a GP and with a working knowledge of current GP systems and structures
  • An enthusiasm for improving customer service, quality systems implementation and the development of 'best practice' around referral management
  • Skills and experience in projects, quality improvement, audit, report writing and presentation
