About the Role

Mana Awhi Older Peoples Health provides inpatient and outpatient services to people aged 65 years and older. It is part of the Community and Long-term Conditions (CLTC) Directorate of Te Toka Tumai Auckland. The purpose of the Directorate is to provide quality, patient-centred, self-directed care as close to home as possible by working in partnership, enabling self-management, and promoting independence. Mana Awhi Older Peoples Health aims to provide world class assessment, treatment, and rehabilitation to people sixty-five years and over to optimise their health, function, and participation.

An opportunity exists for one Geriatrician to join the Mana Awhi Older Peoples Health at Te Toka Tumai.

About the Team/Service/Location

As a Geriatrician, you will be part of a team providing assessment, treatment, and rehabilitation services to older people across inpatient, outpatient and community settings. There is an active Orthogeriatric and Trauma programme, a discretionary consult service to all relevant inpatient specialties and a well-established Emergency Department (ED) Frailty service. There is the opportunity to participate in stroke rehabilitation in ADHBs new integrated stroke unit. We have an excellent working relationship with Mental Health Services for Older People (MHSOP), with two Old Age Psychiatrists and a Clinical Nurse Specialist providing a liaison service to our inpatient wards. We run a memory clinic with MHSOP and a Neuropsychologist. We have a Clinical Psychologist to support us on our inpatient wards.

Auckland region is home to over 1.5 million people; a blend of sophisticated city living with great food and coffee plus its outdoor beauty makes it one of the most desirable places to live in New Zealand. Auckland City has excellent schools both public and private. The hospital has a very well-regarded Day Care.

There are currently eighteen Geriatricians in our service. We are friendly and collegial with excellent working relationships with our nursing, allied health, clinical psychology and MHSOP colleagues. Importantly, Auckland Hospital boasts wonderful coffee from our own Planet Espresso!

About You

You must currently hold (or be eligible for) Vocational/Specialist Registration in Geriatric Medicine with the Medical Council of New Zealand (www.mcnz.org.nz), Appropriate postgraduate qualifications (RACP), relevant training and experience are required.
