Senior Financial Accountant
Location: Auckland, New Zealand
To deliver expert support in the management of investment accounting and tax functions, ensuring accurate and efficient processing of financial transactions, compliance with relevant tax regulations, and optimal reporting for Apex NZ clients. This includes the meticulous handling of investment portfolios, adherence to complex tax laws, preparation of detailed financial reports, and strategic tax planning to enhance client outcomes and meet regulatory requirements.
What you will be doing:
- Preparation of monthly accounting and portfolio valuation packages for Clients, trustees and any other third parties
- Assist with the Annual audit process – liaise with Clients and their external auditors to agree the format and content of financial statement templates and rollover and prepare templates, accordingly, testing as required
- Annual financial statements – prepare, with accuracy and timeliness, annual financial statements for Client's Funds that are compliant with NZ IFRS and liaise with Client external auditors through the audit process
- Assist with any further regulatory requirements such as KiwiSaver Statistical Returns & the FMCA requirements of the Fund Updates and Disclose Register
- Ensure awareness of new Exposure drafts and IFRS developments relevant to financial services and fund management and assist with implementing any relevant changes
- Mandate monitoring specific to Client's investment mandates as required
- Assist with the regular review of taxable income and expenses within the portfolios
- Assist the Investment Accounting Manager in supporting the operational team with investment income tax expertise, tax reconciliation and filing
- Assist in ensuring the internal Procedures and Process documents are maintained up to date for the Accounting and Reporting team
- Assist with Fund set ups, GL maintenance and other static data reviews
- Work with other teams in Operations, gain an awareness of their roles and where they are relevant to your own to ensure you increase your knowledge of investment securities, products and Fund Administration.
- Undertake other duties as reasonably required including assistance with Projects and IT testing
Skills Required:
- Qualified Accountant with at least two years of relevant experience in the Financial Services industry
- Keen to learn and be part of a team that achieves to tight deadlines
- Well organized with good communication skills to enable working efficiently with auditors and clients
