Carry out environmental sampling program in Waikato plant ensuring ISO compliance and timely reporting throughput

Environmental Technician

The Opportunity

As the Environmental Technician, you will be responsible for all routine and non-routine environmental sampling specifically environmental swabbing and trace back swabbing in all areas assigned in the Environmental Management Programme (EMP).

What You'll Do:

  • Undertake active and passive air sampling, and sampling of water supplies, compressed air, and gases
  • Complete environmental sampling as per the Environmental Management Programme
  • Complete Environmental trending on results
  • Complete customer sampling, when required
  • Complete daily reporting for the hygiene chart
  • Complete swabbing within the schedule
  • Ensure trace back is done until the relevant clearance is obtained for the area concerned
  • Ensure the swabbing samples reach the laboratory within the required timelines of sampling
  • Ensure sub samples are labelled correctly and are delivered to the required laboratory on time for testing in the required environmental and packaging conditions
  • Tanker swabbing/sampling
  • Be competent in carrying out both conventional microbiological surface sampling and use of ATP sampling and testing
  • Undertake regular pest control inspections, including sighting and collection of insects as per designated schedule
  • Order consumables as required

Quality, Safety and Environmental

  • Attend regular departmental meetings with relevant manager/supervisor to build in continuous feedback mechanisms.
  • Meet the requirements of ISO by complying with all relevant Quality policies and procedures to ensure the Quality objectives of the business are met.
  • Comply with all relevant company Occupational Health, Safety and Environmental policies, procedures, and work practices with the intent of preventing or minimising accidental exposures to self, colleagues and/or the environment.
  • Ensure any PPE provided by the Abbott is worn and maintained.
  • Report any accidents or incidents within 24 hours through allocated system and notify your manager.

Conduct

  • Ensure all activities carried out by self and others are in accordance with legislative employment policies, health & safety requirements and global policy.

  • Ensure the timely completion of the timesheet via allocated system.

Compliance and Training Requirements

  • Completion of all assigned Training to this role by the scheduled due date is mandatory

Requirements:

  • Tertiary education to diploma level (NCEA Level 4 or equivalent) is essential
  • The above qualification in science (e.g. Microbiology and Chemistry) would be an advantage
  • Worked in a dairy industry or a food industry, preferably with experience in environmental monitoring and sub sampling for laboratory testing would be an advantage
  • Experience in microbiology would be an advantage
  • Knowledge of hygiene practice in a food or dairy industry would be an advantage
