Lead the geriatric care pathway for older adults in Auckland Hospital's inpatient and outpatient services

Medical Officer - Older People's Health

An opportunity exists for one Geriatric Fellow/MOSS to join the Mana Awhi Older Peoples Health at Te Toka Tumai for a fixed term six-month period. As a Geriatric Fellow/MOSS, you will be part of a team providing assessment, treatment, and rehabilitation services to older people across inpatient settings. There is an active Orthogeriatric and Trauma programme, a discretionary consult service to all relevant inpatient specialties and a well-established Emergency Department (ED) Frailty service. There is the opportunity to participate in stroke rehabilitation in ADHB’s new integrated stroke unit. We have an excellent working relationship with Mental Health Services for Older People (MHSOP), with two Old Age Psychiatrists and a Clinical Nurse Specialist providing a liaison service to our inpatient wards. We run a memory clinic with MHSOP and a Neuropsychologist. We have a Clinical Psychologist to support us on our inpatient wards.

Mana Awhi Older Peoples Health provides inpatient and outpatient services to people aged 65 years and older. It is part of the Community and Long-term Conditions (CLTC) Directorate of Te Toka Tumai Auckland (ADHB). The purpose of the Directorate is to provide quality, patient-centred, self-directed care as close to home as possible by working in partnership, enabling self-management, and promoting independence. Mana Awhi Older Peoples Health aims to provide world class assessment, treatment, and rehabilitation to people sixty-five years and over to optimise their health, function, and participation.

There are currently eighteen Geriatricians in our service. We are friendly and collegial with excellent working relationships with our nursing, allied health, clinical psychology and MHSOP colleagues. Importantly, Auckland Hospital boasts wonderful coffee from our own Planet Espresso!

To be considered an ideal candidate, you must: currently hold (or be eligible for) Vocational/Specialist Registration in Geriatric Medicine with the Medical Council of New Zealand, hold an appropriate postgraduate qualification, and have relevant training and experience.
