The Opportunity
We are seeking a hands-on and proactive Maintenance Assistant to join our team on a 26-week fixed-term contract starting as soon as possible. In this role, you will support the Maintenance Manager to ensure the hotel buildings, grounds, vehicles, and equipment are maintained to the highest standard for both guests and associates.
Main Responsibilities
The Maintenance Assistant will support the day-to-day operation and upkeep of the property, including:
Property Maintenance
- Carry out general maintenance and repair tasks across the hotel, staff accommodation and surrounding facilities
- Assist with preventative maintenance programmes across buildings, plant, and equipment
- Respond to maintenance requests from departments promptly and professionally
Operations Support
- Ensure the smooth running and functionality of lodge infrastructure and equipment
- Identify faults or maintenance issues and report them to the Maintenance Manager
- Maintain tools, machinery and maintenance equipment in safe working condition
Grounds and Facility Support
- Assist with upkeep of lodge grounds, walkways, and operational areas
- Support general repairs including carpentry, painting, plumbing support, and minor building works
Vehicle and Equipment Maintenance
- Drive and maintain company vehicles as required
- Ensure vehicles and maintenance equipment are cleaned, maintained, and safe to operate
Health & Safety
- Follow all company Health & Safety procedures and safe work practices
- Identify hazards and report incidents, near misses, or safety concerns immediately
- Ensure work areas are safe, tidy, and compliant with safety requirements
What You Will Bring
Along with your pride in workmanship and team approach, you will have:
- Previous experience in a maintenance, handyperson, or property maintenance role
- Trade experience or qualifications are advantageous
- A practical and proactive "can-do" attitude
- Strong organisational and problem-solving skills
- A high level of attention to detail
- Excellent communication and teamwork skills
- A full New Zealand driver's licence
- Reliable transport due to the remote location
- Good physical fitness for hands-on work
- Flexibility to work weekends and public holidays if required
