About the Role

We are looking for a technically skilled and experienced technician with knowledge of electronics, mobile device repair, motherboard diagnostics, and component-level repairs.

The successful applicant will diagnose and repair hardware and software faults across a range of electronic devices. The role involves working at component and board level, using specialist diagnostic equipment, interpreting circuit diagrams, performing precision soldering, and testing repaired devices to ensure they operate correctly.

The position requires strong technical knowledge, attention to detail, problem-solving ability, and the ability to work efficiently in a busy repair environment.

Key Responsibilities

  • Assess and determine software and hardware requirements to identify appropriate solutions to technical problems.
  • Respond to customer and internal enquiries relating to software, hardware, and electronic device faults.
  • Diagnose and troubleshoot hardware problems in laptops, mobile phones, iPads, tablets, motherboards, and other electronic devices.
  • Diagnose and repair chip-level and board-level faults on electronic devices and circuit boards.
  • Perform component-level repairs, including replacement of capacitors, resistors, transistors, integrated circuits (ICs), and other electronic components.
  • Install, configure, update, and download appropriate software and operating systems as required.
  • Use specialist diagnostic tools and electronic testing equipment to identify faulty components, circuits, and connections.
  • Read and interpret electronic schematics, circuit diagrams, and board layouts to understand circuitry and signal flow.
  • Carry out precision soldering and de-soldering of electronic components using appropriate tools and techniques.
  • Inspect circuit boards and components to identify physical damage, faults, corrosion, or other technical issues.
  • Test repaired motherboards, devices, and components to confirm functionality, performance, and stability.
  • Carry out functional testing and quality checks before returning repaired devices to customers.
  • Maintain accurate records of repair work, including faults identified, diagnostic procedures, parts used, repairs completed, and testing undertaken.
  • Ensure the efficient and safe use of repair equipment, diagnostic tools, software applications, and other technical resources.
  • Maintain a clean, organised, and safe repair workspace.
  • Follow workplace health and safety procedures when handling electronic equipment, tools, components, and chemicals.
  • Keep up to date with developments in mobile phone, tablet, laptop, motherboard, and electronic repair technologies.
  • Research and apply new techniques and technologies in chip-level and board-level repair.
  • Work collaboratively with other technicians and team members to diagnose and resolve complex technical issues.
  • Provide technical assistance and guidance to team members when required.
  • Complete other relevant repair and technical duties as reasonably required by the business.

Qualification or Experience

NZ Register Diploma in IT or Electronics OR three years of relevant experience

Please note, this is a full-time position with rostered/split shifts, including weekends. Applicant should be available as per the rostered shifts including weekends.
