Farm Assistant - Dry Stock

Seeking a reliable and motivated Farm Assistant – Dry Stock to assist with day-to-day operations on a dry stock farm.

This role does not involve milking, dairy shed or effluent system duties. The primary focus is on livestock care, feed and pasture support and general farm maintenance in line with farm systems, animal welfare,and health and safety standards.

• Minimum 30 hours per week guaranteed. 
• Employee housing is available on-site. Accommodation may be shared or private, depending on availability at the time of successful placement. No pets allowed.
• Drive-in applicants must be able to demonstrate they can reliably meet the requirements of the roster; candidates residing outside a reasonable commuting distance who are unwilling to relocate may be considered unsuitable for these operational reasons.

Applicants must have the following as per employer’s requirement: 

• Applicants must be physically fit and willing to learn.
• Applicants must pass pre-employment drug test and have no criminal record.
• Applicants are not required to have experience in the dairy shed, or with pasture-based farming as this is an entry level role and the employer is willing to provide necessary training.
• Must have a driver licence

Key Responsibilities: 

1.    Animal Care (Dry Stock)

·         Assist with daily care and monitoring of livestock (young stock and dry stock)

·         Feeding, shifting and grazing stock according to farm plans

·         Support animal health programmes under supervision

·         Report sick, injured, or distressed animals promptly

·         Assist with stock movements, yard work, and general handling

2.    Feed & Pasture Support

·         Assist with feeding routines and feed allocation

·         Support pasture management activities as directed

·         Assist with weed and pest control

·         Support fertiliser application when required

3.    Farm Operations & Maintenance

·         Assist with fencing repairs and general farm maintenance

·         Support machinery and equipment operation under supervision

·         Assist with seasonal farm activities, such as wintering and stock management

4.    Health, Safety & Environment

·         Follow all health and safety policies and procedures

·         Reporting hazards, incidents or near misses

·         Wear required personal protective equipment (PPE)

·         Work in accordance with environmental and animal welfare standards

5.    Teamwork & Communication

·         Working effectively with farm managers and other staff

·         Following instructions and contributing positively to the team

·         Taking responsibility for allocated tasks and daily routines

6.    Skills & Requirements

·         Previous farming or livestock experience preferred (training may be provided)

·         Genuine interest in animal care and farming

·         Physically fit and able to work outdoors in all weather conditions

·         Willingness to learn (training provided)

·         Ability to follow instructions and work independently when required

·         Basic understanding of farm health and safety practices

·         Restricted or full driver licence preferred

·         Must pass pre-employment drug test and police checks
