Position Title: Beekeeping Assistant

Pay Rate: $26 – $37 per hour
Hours of Work: 30–50 hours per week
Key Requirements:
2 years' experience or a Level 4 qualification.
A beekeeping assistant helps lead beekeepers manage and maintain honeybee colonies. Duties include inspecting hive health, harvesting honey, building and repairing equipment, and feeding colonies. This hands-on, physical entry-level role is vital for honey production, crop pollination, and bee biosecurity.
Key Responsibilities
- Hive Management: Inspect colonies for overall health, queen activity, and population strength.
- Disease & Pest Control: Monitor and treat hives for common issues like Varroa mites or American Foulbrood.
- Feeding & Maintenance: Feed colonies sugar syrup or pollen substitutes during seasonal shortages.
- Harvesting: Pull honey supers, extract honey, and process hive byproducts like beeswax.
- Equipment Care: Build, paint, clean, and repair hive boxes, frames, and tools.
- Hive Relocation: Load, secure, and move hives to different sites for seasonal floral flows or pollination contracts.
