As our business continues to grow, we are seeking an experienced Internal Auditor to strengthen our internal control, risk management, compliance, and operational review processes.
About the Role
The Internal Auditor will be responsible for independently reviewing and evaluating the effectiveness of J Living's internal controls, financial and operational processes, risk management procedures, and compliance systems.
The role will work across the company's construction and business operations to identify financial and operational risks, assess compliance with internal policies and procedures, and recommend practical improvements to strengthen governance, accountability, and operational efficiency. This is a permanent full-time position, and you will be required to work at least 40 hours per week.
Key Responsibilities
Internal Audit and Control Review
- Plan and conduct internal audits across the company's financial, operational, and administrative functions.
- Review the effectiveness and reliability of internal control systems and business procedures.
- Examine financial and operational records to assess accuracy, completeness, and compliance with established policies and procedures.
- Identify weaknesses in internal controls and recommend appropriate corrective actions.
- Monitor the implementation and effectiveness of agreed audit recommendations.
Construction and Project Process Auditing
- Review internal controls relating to residential construction and development projects.
- Examine project expenditure, budgets, cost controls, variations, purchasing, and payment processes.
- Review procurement procedures and controls relating to suppliers, subcontractors, and service providers.
- Assess whether project-related transactions and approvals comply with company policies and delegated authorities.
- Identify financial, operational, and procedural risks arising from construction and project activities.
Risk and Compliance
- Assess business and operational risks and evaluate whether appropriate controls are in place.
- Review compliance with internal policies, contractual requirements, and applicable regulatory obligations.
- Evaluate procedures designed to safeguard company assets and minimise financial or operational risk.
- Investigate significant control discrepancies, irregular transactions, or procedural weaknesses when required.
- Assist management in developing and improving risk management and internal control frameworks.
Audit Analysis and Reporting
- Analyse financial and operational information to identify unusual transactions, control weaknesses, trends, and potential areas of risk.
- Prepare internal audit reports outlining findings, identified risks, and recommended corrective actions.
- Present audit findings and practical recommendations to management.
- Follow up on audit findings and assess whether corrective measures have been effectively implemented.
- Maintain accurate audit working papers, supporting evidence, and internal audit records.
Process Improvement
- Review existing business processes and recommend improvements to internal controls, efficiency, accountability, and risk management.
- Work with management and relevant teams to improve financial and operational procedures.
- Support the development and maintenance of internal policies, procedures, and control systems.
- Provide advice to management on internal control and risk management matters while maintaining appropriate audit independence.
Skills and Experience Required
The successful candidate will have:
- A relevant Bachelor's degree or higher qualification in Accounting, Auditing, Finance, Commerce, Business, or a related discipline. OR
- At least five years of relevant professional experience in internal auditing, external auditing, risk, compliance, financial control, or a closely related field.
- Sound knowledge of internal audit principles, internal controls, risk management, and financial processes.
- Strong analytical skills and the ability to identify control weaknesses and operational risks.
- Ability to review and interpret financial records, business processes, contracts, and supporting documentation.
- Strong written communication skills, including the ability to prepare clear and structured audit reports.
- Strong attention to detail, professional judgement, and problem-solving ability.
- Ability to work independently and communicate effectively with management and operational teams.
