Goldstone Aluminium Limited, trading as Nulook North Harbour, is an established Auckland-based business specialising in the manufacture and supply of aluminium-framed window and door products.
As our operations continue to develop, we are seeking an experienced Internal Auditor to strengthen our internal control, risk management, compliance, and operational review processes across our manufacturing and business operations. This is a permanent full-time position, and you will be required to work at least 40 hours per week.
About the Role
The Internal Auditor will be responsible for independently reviewing and evaluating the effectiveness of the company's internal controls, financial and operational processes, risk management procedures, and compliance systems.
The role will examine business processes across manufacturing, procurement, inventory management, sales, finance, and administration to identify control weaknesses and operational risks and recommend practical improvements.
Key Responsibilities
Internal Audit and Control Review
- Plan and conduct internal audits across the company's financial, operational, manufacturing, and administrative functions.
- Review and evaluate the effectiveness of internal control systems, policies, and business procedures.
- Examine financial and operational records to assess their accuracy, completeness, and compliance with established procedures.
- Identify weaknesses, inconsistencies, and control deficiencies and recommend appropriate corrective actions.
- Monitor the implementation and effectiveness of agreed audit recommendations.
Manufacturing and Operational Auditing
- Review internal controls relating to aluminium window and door manufacturing operations.
- Assess production-related procedures, authorisations, documentation, and internal controls.
- Review controls over raw materials, work in progress, finished products, and inventory movements.
- Examine manufacturing costs, job costing, material usage, wastage, and other operational information to identify discrepancies or areas of risk.
- Evaluate whether appropriate controls are in place to safeguard inventory, equipment, materials, and other company assets.
- Review operational processes and identify opportunities to improve efficiency, accountability, and control.
Procurement and Supplier Controls
- Review procurement procedures relating to raw materials, components, equipment, and services.
- Examine purchase orders, supplier invoices, payment approvals, and supporting documentation.
- Assess supplier management and purchasing controls to identify potential financial or operational risks.
- Review compliance with internal approval authorities and procurement procedures.
- Identify unusual transactions, discrepancies, or weaknesses within purchasing and payment processes.
Financial and Business Process Review
- Review financial processes including revenue, expenditure, accounts payable, accounts receivable, payroll, and cash management.
- Examine transactions and supporting documentation to assess compliance with internal policies and control procedures.
- Review the accuracy and reliability of financial and operational information used by management.
- Assess controls over sales, customer accounts, credit arrangements, and payment collection processes.
- Identify financial control risks and recommend improvements to strengthen financial governance.
Risk and Compliance
- Identify and assess financial, operational, and compliance risks across the business.
- Evaluate whether appropriate controls are in place to manage identified risks.
- Review compliance with company policies, procedures, contractual requirements, and applicable regulatory obligations.
- Investigate significant control discrepancies, irregular transactions, or procedural weaknesses when required.
- Assist management in improving risk management and internal control frameworks.
Audit Reporting and Follow-up
- Analyse financial and operational data to identify unusual transactions, trends, discrepancies, and control weaknesses.
- Prepare clear internal audit reports outlining findings, identified risks, and recommended corrective actions.
- Present audit findings and practical recommendations to management.
- Follow up on audit recommendations and assess whether corrective actions have been appropriately implemented.
- Maintain accurate audit working papers, supporting evidence, and internal audit records.
Process Improvement
- Review existing business processes and recommend improvements to internal controls, efficiency, accountability, and risk management.
- Work with management and relevant departments to improve financial and operational procedures.
- Support the development and maintenance of internal policies, procedures, and control systems.
- Provide advice to management on internal control and risk management matters while maintaining appropriate professional independence.
Skills and Experience Required
The successful candidate will have:
- A relevant Bachelor's degree or higher qualification in Accounting, Auditing, Finance, Commerce, Business, or a related discipline. OR
- At least five years of relevant professional experience in internal auditing, external auditing, risk, compliance, financial control, or a closely related field.
- Sound knowledge of internal audit principles, internal controls, risk management, and financial processes.
- Strong analytical skills and the ability to identify financial and operational control weaknesses.
- Ability to analyse financial records, operational data, business processes, and supporting documentation.
- Strong written communication skills, including the ability to prepare clear and structured audit reports.
- Strong attention to detail, professional judgement, and problem-solving ability.
- Ability to work independently and communicate effectively with management and operational teams.
