About the Role
We are looking for an experienced Industrial Spraypainter / Blaster Painter to join our client manufacturing team in Christchurch.
The role involves preparing, blasting and spray painting fabricated steel and metal components. You will be responsible for surface preparation, paint application, checking finished coatings and keeping the painting and blasting areas and equipment in good working order.
Main Duties
- Prepare steel and metal surfaces for painting, including abrasive blasting and cleaning.
- Set up and operate spray painting equipment and spray booths.
- Mix and apply primers, undercoats and topcoats in accordance with coating specifications and manufacturer instructions.
- Apply protective coatings and films to specified surfaces.
- Check surfaces before painting to make sure they are properly prepared and free from contamination.
- Check completed paintwork for coverage, finish, defects and other coating issues.
- Use DFT and WFT gauges to check coating thickness and record results.
- Read and follow drawings, work instructions, coating specifications and technical data sheets.
- Clean and maintain spray guns, blasting equipment, spray booths, filters and other related equipment.
- Carry out routine checks of blasting and painting equipment and report any faults or maintenance issues.
- Safely handle paints, solvents and other coating products.
- Keep the blasting, painting and workshop areas clean and tidy.
- Report quality issues, damaged parts, delays or safety concerns to the team leader.
- Follow all workplace health and safety procedures and use the required PPE.
Skills and Experience
- Minimum 2 years of relevant experience OR level 4 qualification.
- Good understanding of paint preparation and application processes.
- Ability to follow paint specifications, product data sheets and work instructions.
- Good understanding of workshop health and safety requirements.
- Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
What We Offer
- $28 - $35 an hour depending on experience.
- Monday to Friday, minimum 30 hours per week.
- May be occasional weekend work.
