Programmed Facility Management is a leading provider of open space and facility maintenance services throughout New Zealand. We are seeking an experienced and reliable Qualified Gardener to join our Waiheke Island team, maintaining public gardens, parks and landscaped areas to a high standard.

He angitūtanga: The opportunity

As a Qualified Gardener, you will be responsible for the maintenance and improvement of gardens and landscaped environments, ensuring they remain safe, attractive and enjoyable for the public.

 The role requires a strong knowledge of horticultural practices, plant care and garden maintenance. Key duties include:

  • Maintaining gardens, landscaped areas and public open spaces
  • Planting, pruning, mulching and weeding
  • Monitoring plant health and identifying pests, diseases and invasive plant species
  • Applying appropriate horticultural maintenance techniques
  • Assisting with landscape improvement and enhancement projects
  • Operating and maintaining gardening tools, machinery and equipment safely
  • Inspecting and maintaining irrigation and garden infrastructure where required
  • Completing workplace documentation, timesheets and maintenance records
  • Following health and safety procedures and promoting safe work practices
  • Assisting and providing guidance to assistants, apprentices and temporary staff as required

To be successful in this role, you will have:

  • At least 2 years of relevant gardening, horticulture, landscape maintenance or nursery experience, preferably within a commercial or public amenity environment.
  • A recognised horticulture qualification (preferred), or equivalent industry experience.
  • Sound knowledge of plant identification, invasive species, plant care and landscape maintenance practices.
  • Ability to work independently and complete tasks to a high standard.
  • Strong communication and time management skills.
  • Commitment to health and safety.
  • Physical fitness and the ability to undertake outdoor manual work.

·        A current and valid New Zealand driver's licence (manual driving experience required).

·        To reside on Waiheke Island to limit shift disruptions.

  • Guaranteed 40 hours per week
  • Competitive hourly rate of $27.00-$29.00 per hour depending on experience
