Alam & Muskaan is seeking 4 experienced Orchard Maintenance Technicians to install, inspect, maintain, and repair the infrastructure and mechanical systems supporting its kiwifruit orchard operations.

This practical, year-round position focuses on maintaining orchard structures, canopy support systems, irrigation equipment, protective coverings, access infrastructure, and related operational equipment.

The successful applicant will identify maintenance requirements, diagnose infrastructure faults, complete repairs, and undertake preventative maintenance to ensure orchard facilities remain safe, functional, and fit for purpose.

Key responsibilities

  • Inspect orchard infrastructure, including posts, canopy wires, trellis systems, anchors, strainers, end assemblies, and support structures.
  • Diagnose faults, structural deterioration, damage, and maintenance requirements.
  • Repair or replace damaged timber and steel posts, support beams, brackets, anchors, and associated fittings.
  • Install, tension, adjust, and repair canopy wires and structural support systems.
  • Install and maintain AgBeam, trellis systems, and other orchard canopy infrastructure.
  • Inspect, repair, and maintain irrigation pipes, valves, filters, sprinklers, and associated components.
  • Identify irrigation leaks, blockages, pressure problems, and equipment failures.
  • Install, repair, and maintain artificial shelter, windbreaks, protective netting, and frost-protection infrastructure.
  • Maintain orchard gates, fencing, accessways, drainage infrastructure, sheds, and operational facilities.
  • Complete scheduled preventative maintenance and respond to urgent infrastructure failures.
  • Use hand tools, power tools, measuring equipment, and relevant machinery safely and competently.
  • Maintain records of inspections, repairs, materials used, and outstanding maintenance requirements.
  • Work with orchard managers and contractors to schedule maintenance and minimise operational disruption.
  • Comply with workplace health and safety procedures and report hazards or unsafe infrastructure.

Minimum requirements

Applicants must have:

  • At least two years of relevant experience in orchard infrastructure maintenance, agricultural maintenance, irrigation maintenance, construction, fencing, mechanical maintenance, or a closely related field; or
  • A relevant qualification at New Zealand Qualifications and Credentials Framework Level 4 or higher, or an overseas equivalent where applicable.

Applicants must also demonstrate:

  • Practical experience repairing or maintaining structural, mechanical, agricultural, or irrigation infrastructure.
  • Competence in using hand tools, power tools, and maintenance equipment.
  • The ability to identify faults, determine appropriate repairs, and complete work safely.
  • An understanding of basic structural maintenance, wire-tensioning systems, fittings, and equipment servicing.
  • The ability to work independently, prioritise maintenance tasks, and maintain accurate records.
  • A commitment to workplace health and safety.

A current driver licence, forklift licence, tractor experience, working-at-heights training, irrigation experience, or a relevant trade qualification would be advantageous but is not essential.
