A unique opportunity to support the implementation of a Lung Screening Mobile Pilot

Help develop the policies, clinical guidance, and quality frameworks that will underpin equitable screening delivery across Aotearoa

About the Role

As a Senior Advisor, you will play a key role in supporting the successful implementation of the Lung Screening Mobile Pilot by providing high-quality writing, analytical, and advisory support to the Clinical & Quality workstream.

In this role, you will work closely with clinicians, technical experts, and the wider implementation team to develop policies, clinical guidelines, quality assurance frameworks, practitioner guidance, and other documentation that supports safe, consistent, and equitable screening delivery.

You will be responsible for translating complex clinical, technical, and operational information into clear, practical, and fit-for-purpose documentation to support implementation and decision-making. You will also synthesise advice from clinical experts, governance groups, and specialist stakeholders to ensure recommendations and outputs are evidence-based, aligned with programme objectives, and informed by best practice.

The pilot is a partnership between Planning, Funding & Outcomes and National Public Health Services, working closely with Hawkes Bay and Lakes Districts

About the Project

The Lung Screening Mobile Pilot is a nationally significant initiative that will help shape the future of lung cancer screening in Aotearoa New Zealand. Building on the learnings from The Lung Cancer Screening Research Programme. The pilot has been established to test and refine the feasibility, effectiveness, and equity of mobile screening delivery. Operating across the Hawke's Bay and Lakes districts, the programme will bring screening closer to communities, improve access to early detection, and support better health outcomes through the identification of lung cancers at an earlier, more treatable stage.

About you

As an experienced advisor, you will bring excellent analytical, writing, and stakeholder engagement skills, along with the ability to navigate complex information and translate it into practical guidance and recommendations.

You will ideally have:

• A relevant tertiary qualification in public policy, health, business analysis, or a related discipline
• Experience working in an advisory, policy, quality, or programme environment
• Demonstrated experience implementing Te Tiriti o Waitangi in practice
• Strong analytical capability and the ability to synthesise information from multiple sources into clear advice and recommendations
• Excellent written communication skills, including the ability to develop high-quality policies, guidance documents, reports, and briefing materials
• Experience translating complex clinical, technical, or operational information into clear and accessible documentation
• Strong relationship management skills and experience working with a range of stakeholders across organisations and disciplines
• The ability to facilitate discussions, gather expert input, and build consensus across diverse stakeholder groups
• Sound judgement, initiative, and the ability to work effectively in a fast-paced and evolving environment
• A commitment to improving health outcomes and reducing inequities for Māori, Pacific peoples, and other priority populations

You will be comfortable working alongside clinicians, technical specialists, and operational teams, contributing to the development of high-quality clinical and quality frameworks that support safe and effective programme delivery.
