Job Title: Diesel Motor Mechanic

Key Tasks and Responsibilities:

1.         Diagnose mechanical and electrical faults in diesel engines and mechanical systems of tourist coaches, buses and other heavy vehicles using diagnostic equipment and computerised testing systems.

2.     Dismantle and inspect diesel engines, transmissions, steering, suspension, braking systems and other mechanical components to identify worn, damaged or defective parts.

3.   Repair, replace and recondition defective engine components, transmissions, braking systems and other mechanical parts in accordance with manufacturer specifications and service requirements.

4.  Carry out scheduled servicing and preventative maintenance of tourist coaches, including oil changes, lubrication, filter replacement, engine tune-ups and routine mechanical inspections.

5.         Reassemble repaired engines, transmissions and other mechanical assemblies, ensuring components are correctly fitted and operating in accordance with technical specifications.

6. Test and adjust repaired engines and mechanical systems to confirm proper performance, reliability and safe operation before coaches return to service.

7.   Use computerised diagnostic tools to test engine and vehicle systems, identify fault codes and determine the cause of mechanical and electrical problems.

8.         Inspect coaches before and after scheduled services and repairs, identify mechanical issues and complete the work required to maintain vehicles in safe and roadworthy operating condition.

9.  Carry out urgent mechanical repairs and fault diagnosis when tourist coaches experience mechanical problems or breakdowns during operation.

10.    Maintain accurate records of servicing, inspections, repairs and replacement parts, and follow relevant workshop procedures and vehicle safety requirements.

 

Permanent full-time position

Minimum guaranteed hours: 30 hours per week

Hourly rate: NZD $35.00–$45.00, depending on skills and experience.

 

Requirements for the job:

·         At least 2 years of relevant work experience; OR A relevant Level 4 or higher qualification.

·         Good skills in maintaining, testing, and repairing diesel engines and mechanical components of heavy vehicles.

·         Available for full-time work and willing to work weekends when required.

·         No criminal record.

·         Candidates need to be NZ citizen/resident.
