This fixed-term role offers hands-on involvement from framing through to final finishes, working alongside an experienced team committed to quality workmanship and safe site practices.

About the Role:
In this role, you will be responsible for delivering high-quality carpentry work across residential builds, from structural framing to detailed interior and exterior finishes. You’ll work closely with site supervisors and other trades to ensure projects are completed on time, to specification, and in line with New Zealand building standards. Your accuracy, craftsmanship, and commitment to health and safety will directly contribute to the successful delivery of each project.

Key Responsibilities:
* Carry out residential timber and steel framing to plans and specifications.
* Install interior and exterior finishes, including doors, windows, trims, cladding, and linings.
* Set out and measure accurately for walls, openings, fixtures, and structural elements.
* Construct and install formwork and concrete boxing for foundations, slabs, and structural components.
* Read and interpret construction drawings, plans, and specifications to guide daily tasks.
* Use a range of hand and power tools safely and efficiently to complete carpentry tasks.
* Maintain a clean, organised, and safe work area in line with site health and safety procedures.
* Collaborate with foremen, other carpenters, and trades to coordinate workflow and resolve on-site issues.

Key Requirements:
* Proven carpentry experience in residential construction, including framing and finishing.
* Strong skills in interior and exterior finishing, with attention to detail and quality.
* Demonstrated ability to read and interpret construction plans and specifications.
* Confident and competent use of hand and power tools in a site environment.
* Solid understanding of New Zealand building codes and standards relevant to residential work.
* Experience with formwork and concrete boxing for residential foundations and structures.
* High level of measurement and layout accuracy, with a focus on getting it right first time.
* Strong communication skills and ability to work effectively as part of a site team.
* Commitment to health and safety compliance and safe work practices.

Desirable Skills:
* Experience working with steel framing systems on residential projects.
* Exposure to a variety of residential build types, including new builds and renovations.
* Familiarity with Porirua or wider Wellington region construction practices and conditions.

Qualifications:
* Trade qualification in Carpentry (e.g. New Zealand Certificate in Carpentry) or equivalent experience.
* Current or working towards Licensed Building Practitioner (LBP) status is advantageous.
* Valid Site Safe or equivalent construction safety certification preferred.
* Full, current driver’s licence suitable for travel to and from Porirua sites.
