Software Engineer

As our project portfolio continues to grow, we are looking for an experienced Software Engineer to join our technical team and contribute to the design, development and delivery of reliable software solutions for our clients.

About the Role

The Software Engineer will be involved throughout the software development lifecycle, from understanding business and technical requirements through solution design, development, testing, deployment and ongoing improvement.

You will work on a range of custom software and system integration projects, developing both new applications and enhancements to existing platforms.

The role requires strong software development fundamentals, practical problem-solving ability and an understanding of how software architecture, databases, APIs and user-facing applications work together to deliver reliable business systems.

Key Responsibilities

• Analyse business and technical requirements and translate them into practical software solutions.

• Design, develop, test and maintain custom software applications and internal business systems.

• Develop and maintain front-end and back-end application components.

• Design and implement application architecture, modules, APIs and database structures.

• Develop responsive and practical user interfaces for web-based applications.

• Build and maintain server-side application logic and services.

• Design, query and optimise relational and non-relational data stores where required.

• Develop and maintain integrations between internal applications, databases and third-party systems.

• Participate in the full software development lifecycle, including requirements analysis, solution design, coding, testing, deployment and maintenance.

• Troubleshoot software defects, performance issues and system integration problems.

• Review and improve existing code, application architecture and development processes.

• Contribute to technical documentation, system specifications and development standards.

• Work with project stakeholders to clarify requirements, priorities and implementation considerations.

• Assist with project planning, task estimation and technical delivery.

• Participate in code reviews and contribute to maintaining software quality and development standards.

• Support deployed applications and implement enhancements based on operational and user requirements.

• Keep up to date with relevant software development technologies, tools and engineering practices.

Skills and Experience

We are looking for someone with practical commercial software development experience and strong technical problem-solving skills.

The successful candidate will ideally have:

• A relevant tertiary qualification in Computer Science, Software Engineering, Information Technology, Mathematics or a related discipline, or equivalent relevant commercial experience.

• Strong commercial experience in software development or software engineering.

• Experience developing modern web-based software applications.

• Experience with JavaScript/TypeScript and modern web development frameworks such as React or comparable technologies.

• Experience with server-side application development using Node.js/Fastify or comparable frameworks.

• Practical experience working with relational databases such as MySQL.

• Experience with caching or data technologies such as Redis would be advantageous.

• Good understanding of software architecture, data structures, APIs and database design.

• Experience integrating software applications with external systems or services.

• Understanding of software testing, debugging, version control and deployment practices.

• Ability to analyse complex technical problems and develop practical solutions.

• Experience working across different stages of the software development lifecycle.

• Good communication skills and the ability to work effectively with technical and non-technical stakeholders.

Experience contributing to technical architecture, coordinating development activities or supporting other developers would be an advantage.
