Retail Sales Assistant

Location: Tokoroa, South Waikato, New Zealand
Employment Type: Full-time, Permanent
Hours: Minimum 30 hours per week, with shifts rostered across weekdays, weekends and public holidays as required
Pay Rate: $25 – $28 per hour, depending on skills and experience

Key Responsibilities

• Serve customers, operate the POS system and process cash and electronic payments accurately.

• Assist with staff rosters and coordinate daily shift arrangements as required.

• Open the shop at 5:30 am or close the shop at 10:00 pm as rostered, including completing relevant opening and closing procedures.

• Replenish shelves and refrigerators, check product expiry dates and maintain attractive product displays.

• Travel to Auckland supermarkets and wholesale stores as required to purchase and collect stock for the dairy shop.

• Prepare and package food items for sale in the store, may need simple cooking or heating, following appropriate food safety and hygiene procedures.

• Receive deliveries, assist with stocktaking and report stock shortages or discrepancies.

• Maintain a clean, safe and well-presented store and assist with general day-to-day retail duties.

• Assist other team members with general day-to-day retail duties as required.

Skills and Experience

The successful applicant will ideally have:

• Previous experience in retail, customer service, or a similar customer-facing role (3+ months) is preferred

• Basic numeracy and the ability to accurately handle cash and electronic payments.

• The ability to work effectively as part of a team.

• Good attention to detail, particularly when handling stock and checking product dates.

• The ability to follow workplace procedures and instructions.

• The ability to work flexible shifts, including weekends and public holidays where required.

• A valid driver’s licence and the ability to drive legally in New Zealand.

• Training will be provided where necessary.
