About the Role

We are seeking an experienced and reliable Building Associate / Construction Supervisor to join our growing construction team in Hamilton, Waikato.

The successful applicant will be responsible for assisting with the planning, coordination and supervision of residential building projects and ensuring that construction work is completed safely, efficiently and to the required quality standards.

This is a full-time position with a minimum guarantee of 35 hours per week.

Key Tasks, Duties and Responsibilities

The key responsibilities of the role will include:

  • Coordinating and supervising day-to-day construction activities on residential building sites.
  • Monitoring construction progress against project plans, specifications and schedules.
  • Reading and interpreting architectural drawings, building plans, specifications and other construction documentation.
  • Coordinating builders, subcontractors, tradespeople, suppliers and other contractors working on the project.
  • Organising construction materials, equipment, deliveries and site resources to support the efficient progress of work.
  • Inspecting construction work and monitoring the quality of workmanship to ensure it meets project requirements and applicable building standards.
  • Identifying construction issues, defects or delays and assisting with resolving these issues.
  • Monitoring project schedules and reporting progress and any potential delays to management.
  • Coordinating different trades and construction activities to ensure work is carried out in the correct sequence.
  • Assisting with arranging and coordinating building inspections and ensuring relevant work is ready for inspection.
  • Monitoring compliance with health and safety requirements and maintaining a safe working environment.
  • Maintaining site records, progress information and other relevant construction documentation.
  • Communicating with clients, subcontractors, suppliers, consultants and other project stakeholders.
  • Assisting with project planning, construction scheduling and resource allocation.
  • Providing practical advice on construction methods, materials and site issues.
  • Assisting management with the overall delivery and completion of building projects.

Minimum Skills, Experience and Qualifications

The successful applicant must have:

  • Relevant qualification in building, construction, construction management or a related field, or equivalent relevant industry experience.
  • A minimum of 2 years' relevant experience in the building and construction industry, including experience coordinating or supervising construction work.
  • Practical knowledge of residential construction methods, materials and building processes.
  • Ability to read and interpret architectural drawings, building plans and construction specifications.
  • Experience coordinating multiple trades, subcontractors and construction activities.
  • Knowledge of construction quality requirements and health and safety practices.
  • Good organisational, planning and time-management skills.
  • Strong communication and problem-solving skills.
  • Ability to work independently and effectively as part of a construction team.
  • Ability to monitor construction progress and identify and resolve site issues.
  • A current New Zealand driver's licence, or the ability to obtain one, is preferred.
