About the Role

We are seeking an experienced and motivated Nurse Educator to join our Emergency Department team at Palmerston North Hospital.

In this role, you will promote excellence in emergency nursing care and education by empowering, educating and supporting nursing staff to provide safe, effective, evidence-based and culturally responsive care. You will inspire staff to develop their clinical capability and reach their full potential while contributing to improved health and wellbeing outcomes for patients and whānau.

Working closely with the Emergency Department senior nursing team, you will identify learning needs, develop and deliver education programmes, support staff orientation and competency development, and promote lifelong learning. You will also contribute to quality improvement initiatives and the implementation of nursing goals, professional standards and evidence-based emergency nursing practice.

You will maintain clinical expertise in emergency nursing, including resuscitation, triage and advanced assessment, while acting as a visible role model for excellence in clinical practice and nursing education.

About You

To succeed in this role, you will have:

• A minimum of four to five years of nursing experience, including at least three years within the relevant specialty
• A current Nursing Council of New Zealand Annual Practising Certificate
• An adult teaching certificate, or a commitment to completing this or a similar qualification
• A postgraduate diploma, or a commitment to working towards this within agreed timeframes
• Strong clinical knowledge and skills in emergency nursing, including resuscitation, triage and advanced assessment
• The ability to plan, deliver and evaluate effective clinical education and professional development
• Excellent communication, collaboration, leadership and relationship-building skills
• An understanding of the significance and obligations of Te Tiriti o Waitangi, including the ability to apply its principles meaningfully in everyday practice

About the Team/Service

You will work predominantly within the Emergency Department and collaborate closely with the Emergency Department senior nursing team, interdisciplinary teams, patients and whānau, social workers, psychologists, administrative staff and senior leadership teams.

Te Pae Hauora o Ruahine o Tararua – MidCentral is a 350-bed hospital in the city of Palmerston North, Manawatū, a city in the Lower North Island of New Zealand. Palmerston North Hospital is a secondary hospital and offers most medical and surgical specialties with the exception of Cardiothoracic, Plastic and Neurosurgery. The hospital serves a local population of 180,000 but is the base for a regional head and neck oncology service which has responsibility for a population of 550,000 and draws patients from Whanganui, Taranaki, and Hawke's Bay.
