Deliver high-quality infrastructure projects from planning through completion in Central Otago and Queenstown

Project Engineer

Location: Central Otago or Queenstown

Contract Type: Permanent Fulltime

At Fulton Hogan, we're driven by a clear purpose: to create, connect and care for communities. We're looking for a Project Engineer to join our Central Otago Projects team and play a key role in delivering high-quality infrastructure projects across the region.

This is an opportunity to step into a role with real ownership, where you'll contribute to planning, commercial performance, and successful project delivery, not just execution on site.

About the role

As a Project Engineer, you'll work closely with the Project Manager to drive the successful delivery of projects from planning through to completion. You'll take ownership of key project functions including programming, cost control, subcontractor management, and stakeholder coordination.

While you'll still maintain a presence on site, your focus will be on ensuring projects are well planned, commercially sound, and delivered efficiently.

Key responsibilities

  • Supporting the Project Manager with project planning, methodology development, and delivery strategy
  • Developing and maintaining project programmes, ensuring alignment with budgets and timelines
  • Monitoring and managing project costs, forecasts, and financial performance
  • Procuring and managing subcontractors, suppliers, and key project resources
  • Preparing and reviewing project documentation, including reporting, contracts, and variations
  • Identifying and managing project risks and opportunities
  • Building strong relationships with internal teams, clients, and stakeholders
  • Ensuring projects meet safety, quality, and environmental standards

We're looking for someone with

  • A tertiary qualification in Engineering, ideally a Bachelor of Civil Engineering or similar
  • Proven experience as an Engineer within infrastructure or contracting environments (around 5+ years)
  • Strong working knowledge of project delivery and project management principles
  • Experience supporting or leading day-to-day site operations, including documentation, programming, and cost control
  • A safety-first mindset, with a solid understanding of relevant legislation and good engineering practice
  • The ability to lead, motivate, and work collaboratively with site teams and contractors
  • A full Class 1 driver's licence

  • Parental leave top-up payment with additional return-to-work support.
  • Ongoing training and development, with clear career growth and progression opportunities.
