The opportunity

We’re looking for an experienced Hydraulic Technician / Hydraulic Fitter / Mechanical Fitter with strong hands-on hydraulic experience to join an established heavy-equipment engineering team in Owhata.

This is a genuine hydraulic specialist position. The business already has experienced diesel mechanics in place, so your primary focus will be the hydraulic side of the operation diagnosing faults, repairing and rebuilding components, and getting equipment back into service.

You’ll be working on serious equipment and complex hydraulic systems, so if you enjoy getting to the bottom of a difficult fault rather than simply replacing parts, you’ll enjoy this role.

What you'll be working on

Your day-to-day work will include:

  • Hydraulic cylinder strip-downs, repairs and rebuilds

  • Hydraulic pump and motor repairs and overhauls

  • Hydraulic valve and control component repairs

  • Hydraulic component repair and refurbishment

  • Hydraulic fault-finding and diagnostics

  • Hydraulic hose and pipe systems

  • Reading and interpreting hydraulic schematics

  • Pressure testing and hydraulic system testing

  • Hydraulic system commissioning

  • Identifying root causes of hydraulic failures

  • Machining and repair of hydraulic components where required

  • Preventative maintenance and component inspection

  • Working alongside mechanical and diesel technicians to diagnose and resolve complex equipment faults

What we're looking for

You are ideally an experienced:

  • Hydraulic Technician

  • Hydraulic Fitter

  • Hydraulic Service Technician

  • Mechanical Fitter with strong hydraulic experience

You don't need to have spent your entire career as a hydraulic specialist. If you have strong mechanical fundamentals, solid hydraulic fault-finding skills and hands-on experience working with heavy equipment, we'd like to talk to you.

You'll need:

  • Strong practical hydraulic knowledge

  • Experience with cylinders, pumps, motors and valves

  • The ability to fault-find using hydraulic schematics

  • Good mechanical fitting and repair skills

  • Experience stripping, repairing and rebuilding hydraulic components

  • A methodical approach to diagnostics and problem solving

  • A relevant mechanical trade qualification or equivalent experience

  • A full NZ driver's licence

Experience working on excavators, loaders, cranes, earthmoving equipment or other heavy machinery would be highly regarded.

The bottom line

If you're a hands-on hydraulic technician who enjoys fault-finding, rebuilding components and solving problems, this is an opportunity to put those skills to work on some serious equipment.

This isn't a diesel mechanic role with a bit of hydraulics. It's a hydraulic-focused position for someone who knows their way around hydraulic systems.
