Our client is New Zealand's largest Volvo Penta dealer, servicing and maintaining some of the country's most impressive recreational and commercial vessels across Auckland's waterfront.

You'll work across workshop and on-water environments, diagnosing and repairing marine engines, hydraulics and mechanical systems while building specialist skills that can take your career well beyond the traditional diesel workshop.

And yes... when you fix it, you often get to test it too.

The Dual Trade Opportunity

This is one of the biggest reasons to consider the role.

If you're already a qualified Diesel Mechanic, the business can support you through a recognised Marine apprenticeship pathway, allowing you to build on your existing trade rather than starting from scratch.

With your existing diesel qualification and experience, the pathway can be significantly shorter than a standard marine apprenticeship — potentially taking around 2.5 years rather than 5.5 years, depending on your existing skills and experience.

You'll come out with a highly specialised dual-trade skillset covering diesel and marine technology — giving you options for a long-term career in New Zealand or internationally.

What You'll Be Working On

No two days are likely to look the same.

Your work could include:

• Diagnosing, servicing and repairing diesel marine engines

• Hydraulic and mechanical fault-finding

• Engine rebuilds and commissioning

• Troubleshooting complex mechanical systems

• Generator and fire system inspections

• Installation of new components and equipment

• Engine and vessel commissioning

• Diagnostic testing and reporting

• Maintenance documentation

• Electrical and electronic diagnostics

Hydraulic and basic DC electrical experience would be an advantage, but training and development are available.

About You

We're interested in people who have a strong mechanical foundation and want to develop into marine specialists.

You'll ideally have:

• A Diesel Mechanic or relevant mechanical trade qualification, or marine technician experience

• At least 3 years' relevant industry experience

• Strong mechanical diagnostic and fault-finding skills

• Experience with Volvo, truck, bus, heavy diesel or marine engines would be advantageous

• Good practical problem-solving ability

• Hydraulic experience would be beneficial

• Basic DC electrical knowledge would be advantageous

• The ability to work independently while contributing to a professional team

• A genuine interest in developing your marine technical skills
