Due to an increase in our project pipeline across the Auckland region, we are seeking a skilled, reliable, and hardworking Painting Trades Worker (Painter) to join our team on a permanent, full-time basis.
Role Description & Key Responsibilities
In this role, you will apply paint, varnish, wallpaper, and other finishes to protect, maintain, and decorate the surfaces of residential and commercial buildings and structures. You will work across various project sites in Auckland, ensuring all work is completed to the highest professional standards.
Your day-to-day duties will include:
- Site Prep & Protection: Erecting scaffolding and ladders, and placing drop sheets to protect adjacent areas from paint splattering.
- Surface Preparation: Removing old paint and wallpaper, fixing woodwork, filling holes and cracks, and smoothing and sealing surfaces.
- Material Preparation: Selecting and preparing paints to required colours by mixing portions of pigment, oil, and thinning and drying additives.
- Paint & Finish Application: Applying paints, varnishes, and stains to surfaces using brushes, rollers, and sprays.
- Wallpapering: Hanging wallpaper, matching patterns, and trimming edges.
- Maintenance: Cleaning equipment (brushes, rollers, sprays) and work areas.
- Minor Repairs: Performing minor repairs to windows, replacing glass in frames, or laying/repairing wall and floor tiles as needed.
Requirements (Qualifications & Experience)
To be successful in this role, you must meet the following criteria:
- Qualifications / Experience: A relevant NZQF Level 4 qualification (or equivalent) in Painting and Decorating, OR at least five (5) years of proven, hands-on professional work experience in painting and decorating.
- Technical Skills: Proficient in surface preparation, brush and roller application, and wallpaper hanging. Experience with airless spray equipment is highly advantageous.
- Physical Fitness: Ability to work comfortably at heights (using scaffolding and ladders) and lift heavy equipment.
- Work Ethic: Strong attention to detail, reliability, punctuality, and a commitment to completing tasks to a professional standard.
- Language Skills: English proficiency is required to ensure health and safety instructions are followed. Spanish-speaking capability is preferred to facilitate communication with our Spanish-speaking site managers and team, but it is not mandatory.
What We Offer
- Guaranteed Hours: Full-time, permanent position with a minimum guaranteed 30 hours of work per week.
- Pay Rate: Hourly rate of NZD $30.00 to NZD $32.00 per hour (gross, based on experience and skills), paid weekly.
