We are seeking an experienced Consultant Psychiatrist to join Rapua te Ao Waiora, our Community Adult Mental Health Team based in Papakura. This is an opportunity to combine specialist clinical practice with meaningful clinical leadership, working alongside tangata whaiora, whānau, and a dedicated multidisciplinary team.

In this role, you’ll have the opportunity to see the impact of your work in the community every day building relationships, supporting recovery, and helping shape mental health services that are accessible, culturally responsive, and focused on equity.

About the Role

As Consultant Psychiatrist, you will provide specialist psychiatric assessment, treatment, and clinical leadership for tangata whaiora with complex mental health needs.

Working in a community setting, you will collaborate closely with:

• Tangata whaiora and their whānau
• Multidisciplinary colleagues
• Primary care and hospital-based services
• Māori and wider community providers
• Service and clinical leaders

Our approach is guided by Te Tiriti o Waitangi, kaupapa Māori principles, cultural safety, recovery, and equity. We are looking for a psychiatrist who can bring strong clinical expertise while building trusted relationships with the people and communities we serve.

This is more than a clinical role it is an opportunity to influence service development, strengthen clinical practice, and contribute to the future direction of community mental health care.

About Rapua te Ao Waiora

Rapua te Ao Waiora provides community-based mental health services to the people of South Auckland.

We are a whānau-centred, recovery-focused service, working alongside tangata whaiora, whānau, and community partners to deliver care that is effective, culturally safe, and accessible.

Based in Papakura, you’ll be closely connected to a diverse and vibrant community, with the opportunity to build relationships that create meaningful and lasting change.

About You

We’re looking for a Consultant Psychiatrist who brings:

• A genuine commitment to improving outcomes for tangata whaiora and whānau.
• Strong clinical expertise and sound professional judgement.
• Excellent communication and collaboration skills.
• Proven or emerging clinical leadership capability.
• Honesty, integrity, and professionalism.
• A commitment to equity, cultural safety, and Te Tiriti o Waitangi.
• The ability to work confidently with complex clinical presentations while supporting a positive team culture.

You’ll be supported by a strong leadership structure, including the Service Manager, Clinical Head, and Senior Leadership Team.

Essential Requirements

Vocational registration with the Medical Council of New Zealand in the scope of Psychiatry.

Current Annual Practising Certificate (APC).
