We are a busy service station in Hamilton looking for a reliable and hands-on Assistant Manager to help lead our day-to-day operations. Working closely with the Store Manager, you'll play a key part in keeping the site running smoothly, supporting our team, and making sure every customer has a positive experience. This is a great opportunity for someone with retail or supervisory experience who is ready to step up and take on more responsibility.

Key responsibilities

Drawing on the core duties of a Retail Supervisor, you will:

  • Supervise, coordinate, and support the daily activities of retail sales and console staff to ensure smooth running of the site
  • Assist with rostering staff and organising shifts to make sure the station is properly covered at all times
  • Serve customers, answer queries, and provide helpful information about fuel, products, and services
  • Sell goods and services and accurately process payments, including cash, EFTPOS, and card transactions
  • Handle and resolve customer complaints and enquiries in a professional and friendly manner
  • Monitor and maintain stock levels, order goods, receive deliveries, and keep the store well-stocked
  • Set up and maintain product displays and pricing, and keep the shop floor clean, tidy, and well-presented
  • Keep accurate records of stock, sales, and financial transactions, including reconciling the till and completing end-of-shift reporting
  • Help ensure the security of the premises, cash, and stock, and follow all health, safety, and fuel-handling procedures
  • Support the training and development of new and existing team members
  • Step in to run the site in the manager's absence when required

What we're looking for

  • Relevant work experience of 2 years or a relevant qualification
  • Strong leadership skills and the confidence to guide and motivate a team
  • Excellent customer service and communication skills
  • Good numeracy and the ability to handle cash and complete basic reporting accurately preferred
  • Reliability, honesty, and a strong work ethic
  • Availability to work a flexible roster, including early mornings, evenings, weekends, and public holidays
  • The legal right to work in New Zealand
