About the Role
We are looking for a reliable and experienced Fruit Production Supervisor to join our team and oversee day-to-day fruit production activities across orchard sites in the Bay of Plenty. This is a hands-on supervisory position suited to someone with practical horticultural or orchard experience who can confidently lead a team and organise daily work activities.
Key Responsibilities
- Supervise and coordinate orchard workers undertaking planting, pruning, thinning, spraying, harvesting, packing and other fruit production activities.
- Allocate daily tasks and organise work teams according to production requirements.
- Monitor staff attendance, performance and productivity.
- Ensure production targets and daily work schedules are achieved.
- Monitor crop health and assist with irrigation, fertilisation, pest management and disease-control activities.
- Plan daily and seasonal work programmes in accordance with orchard production schedules and weather conditions.
- Train, guide and support workers to improve productivity and safe working practices.
- Ensure all workers follow workplace health and safety requirements, company policies and orchard procedures.
- Inspect completed work to ensure required quality standards are maintained.
- Maintain accurate records relating to production, work completed, staffing and orchard activities.
- Report crop progress, staffing requirements, operational issues and equipment or supply requirements to management.
- Assist with general orchard duties when required.
- Support the efficient operation of orchard sites across the Bay of Plenty.
Skills and Experience
- A Level 4 or higher relevant qualification, or at least two years of relevant work experience in fruit production, horticulture, orchard operations or a comparable supervisory position.
- Practical knowledge of orchard management and fruit production cycles.
- Experience supervising and coordinating workers.
- Ability to allocate tasks and monitor work quality and productivity.
- Good communication and organisational skills.
- Strong time-management and problem-solving abilities.
- A practical, reliable and hands-on approach to work.
- Ability to work outdoors in varying weather conditions.
- Ability and willingness to travel between orchard sites within the Bay of Plenty as required
Additional Requirements
- You must be physically fit and capable of undertaking manual orchard work when required.
- A strong understanding of workplace health and safety practices is essential.
- You must be reliable and flexible to work additional or varied hours during seasonal peak periods, within the maximum 40-hour working week.
- You must have the legal right to work in New Zealand or be eligible to obtain the appropriate work visa.
