About the position
NZ Cheap Cars Limited is seeking an experienced Motor Mechanic to join its Auckland team. The successful applicant will inspect, diagnose, service and repair used vehicles while maintaining high standards of workmanship, safety and record-keeping.
As NZ Cheap Cars imports vehicles from Japan, the role also involves reviewing Japanese vehicle documentation and communicating with Japanese suppliers regarding vehicle condition, specifications, mechanical matters and other vehicle-related information. Fluency in Japanese is therefore required for this position.
Key duties and responsibilities

Carry out mechanical inspections on incoming used vehicles to assess their condition and identify faults.

Diagnose mechanical and electrical issues using appropriate diagnostic tools and techniques.

Repair, reassemble and service engines, transmissions, braking systems, steering, suspension and other vehicle components.

Conduct routine maintenance, including oil changes, filter replacements, fluid checks and other scheduled servicing.

Replace or repair worn and defective parts using appropriate tools and equipment.

Test-drive vehicles to assess performance and confirm that repairs have been completed successfully.

Ensure vehicles comply with applicable New Zealand safety standards, pollution requirements and Warrant of Fitness requirements.

Review and interpret Japanese vehicle documentation, including vehicle information, specifications, inspection information and other relevant records.

Liaise with Japanese suppliers where required regarding vehicle condition, specifications, mechanical issues and related technical information.

Maintain accurate service and repair records and report identified issues to management.

Maintain a clean, safe and organised workshop in accordance with workplace health and safety requirements.

Perform other reasonable duties associated with the position.
Minimum requirements
Applicants must have:

At least two years of relevant work experience as a Motor Mechanic or in a substantially similar automotive mechanical role;

Practical experience diagnosing mechanical and electrical faults;

Practical experience servicing and repairing engines, transmissions, brakes, steering and suspension systems;

The ability to use appropriate automotive diagnostic tools and workshop equipment safely;

Fluency in Japanese, including the ability to read Japanese vehicle documentation and communicate effectively with Japanese suppliers;

The ability to maintain accurate service records;

An understanding of workplace health and safety requirements;

Good attention to detail and the ability to work reliably as part of a team.
No formal qualification is required for this position.
